Juwan Johnson 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Bleak Future With Crowded Room
2 years agoNew Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson quietly posted a career year in 2022, scoring seven touchdowns, tied for the third-most among tight ends. Johnson racked up over 500 yards last year, taking advantage of the extended absences of wide receivers Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry. Following quarterback Derek Carr's signing, Johnson's outlook for the upcoming season was very encouraging. That hope has been placed on the back burner after tight end Foster Moreau (illness) was brought over from Las Vegas. Moreau was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma earlier in the offseason but is already a full participant in practice. Johnson was the top red zone target for the Saints last season, tied for the team lead in receptions and targets, and very well could lead the team in the same category this year. The 26-year-old has too much competition to be anything more than a touchdown-reliant tight end in 2023. Between Chris Olave, Thomas, Rashid Shaheed, and Alvin Kamara, targets will be limited for Johnson. Taysom Hill and Moreau will take him off the field often. Johnson can still outdo his TE19 ADP price tag if he can rack up five or more touchdowns in 2023.
