Baker Mayfield 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook: Sneaky Late Round Quarterback With High Upside
6 months agoIn his first year as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' starting quarterback, Baker Mayfield threw for a career-high 4,044 yards. Additionally, he tallied 28 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Baker played alongside two veteran wide receivers, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Both Evans and Godwin went for over 1,000 yards in 2023. Evans caught 79 balls for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns, while Godwin put up 1,024 yards on 83 receptions, scoring twice through the air and once on the ground. Evans is one of the premiere down-the-field pass catchers in the league. Godwin is slow to return to form from injury but is productive when on the field. Both weapons will be back in Tampa Bay. The Bucs also drafted wide receiver Jalen McMillan in the 2024 NFL Draft. Running back and pass catcher Rachaad White is another target for Mayfield. The 29-year-old should find himself in a similar situation this season as last, having plenty of volume available through the air. Inconsistency will be something to keep an eye on, as last season, he was outside the top 15 at quarterback for seven weeks. Offensive coordinator Dave Canales played a significant role in Mayfield's career season. Canales is now the head coach of the Carolina Panthers. Tampa Bay's new offensive coordinator, Liam Coen, was formerly the University of Kentucky OC. He joins a competent quarterback in Mayfield, a player who just agreed to a three-year, $115 million contract with the Buccaneers this offseason. Mayfield has an NFFC ADP of 110, drafted as the 21st quarterback off the board. Mayfield's RotoBaller ranking of 130 overall (QB22) means he is being drafted similarly to his ranking. Mayfield should not be drafted as your QB1 in standard single quarterback formats, but he will make a solid and cheap QB2/QB3 in superflex leagues.
