Horse For The Course: PGA DFS Course History - 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Jason Day - PGA DFS Lineup Picks, Golf Betting

Todd McGill's DraftKings, FanDuel PGA DFS picks for the 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course. Picks for daily fantasy golf based on course history

We were treated to a wonderful pre-Super Bowl tournament out west this year at the WM Phoenix Open. Not that it rarely disappoints. Hideki Matsuyama gave up a lead on the 72nd hole, which resulted in a playoff with the red-hot Chris Gotterup. Whether it was the unruly fans that caused the Japanese star to lose on two important occasions, or something else, he wasn't able to overcome the disastrous tee shot in the playoff, especially with the bomb Gotterup made to end with a crescendo.

The PGA Tour now comes off the heater in Phoenix to the first Signature Event of the season at arguably the most renowned property in the sport. Pebble Beach is hosting this fan-and-player-favored event for the 79th time, taking shape in various forms with course rotations throughout its tenure. This year's event will use only SpyGlass Hill, which makes the course history aspect a little easier to lean into than the usual three layouts.

2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Since this is the first Signature Event of the new season, it will be the first opportunity for players in the Aon Swing 5. Pierceson Coody, Ryo Hisatsune, Jake Knapp, Matt McCarty, and Patrick Rodgers will be the names getting first crack at elevating their status for the rest of the season. They will also be in next week's field at Riviera.

This will also be the first event for many European players who have spent the start of the year on the DP World Tour. Rory McIlroy returns to the site where his improbable 2025 season started, posting the lowest tournament score relative to par in 10 years. Other guys like Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry are also making their first start of the year on U.S. soil this week.

This is the first chance of 2026 to see the full firepower of the tour on display, as well as a host of popular celebrities and business moguls making random TV appearances over the first two days. Pebble Beach will be the only course used on the weekend and will only include professional players.

Pebble Beach Golf Links & Spyglass Hill

Par 72 - 6,989 | Greens: Poa Annua | Designed By: Jack Nevelle & Douglas Grant

The timeless flair and natural beauty of these two golf courses are unmatched in the world of golf. For the sake of this article, everything will focus on what players have done at the host site, as three of the four days will be played there, not to mention the overload of historical data.

While this is one of the shortest courses players will see all season, it still takes a bit of strategy and capitalizing on the right holes to have success here, unless you're Rory McIlroy, who pounded his driver all over the lot last season and basically played a different course than the rest of the field. Similarly to Tiger Woods' dominant U.S. Open victory in 2000. In most cases, approach play from 100 to 150 yards is the largest contributor to total strokes gained. Other statistics to consider are driving accuracy and greens in regulation over 200 yards.

As has been the case for many years at this event, the weather isn't exactly at its peak season on the Monterey Peninsula. Nasty rain and wind can often be in attendance, so the smartest people who want to have a little riding on the week will need to check the weather report before placing bets or constructing DFS lineups.

  • 2024: Wyndham Clark (-17) *Shortened to 54 holes

  • 2021: Daniel Berger (-18)

The Horse

Jason Day

  • Notable Finishes: (Five top-5s, three top 10s)

The top spot this week could be up for conversation in what is considered good course history at such a longstanding and iconic place in golf. On one hand, winning potential carries its own weight, but in Jason Day's case, year-over-year consistency is his largest selling point, as he's never won on this golf course.

Even without a victory, the Australian has nearly always managed to be a part of the conversation. In 15 previous appearances, Day has only finished outside the top 25 twice. That is insane consistency, and what's more impressive is that his strokes gained average over his last four tournaments here reached a total of +1.092 from his play across the board, but it's worth noting that 0.505 of that average has been from his putting. He's undoubtedly a name to watch come Thursday.

The Ponies

Tom Hoge

  • Notable Finishes: 1st ('22), T6 ('24)

Over the last five seasons, Tom Hoge has been a familiar face at this event, winning it four years ago and posting a few more solid finishes since. There's no doubt that his iron play and putting have propelled him around these famed holes, gaining over a stroke on average solely between approach and performance on the greens. The other parts of his game haven't let him down either, and the reduced length allows him to play much more to his strengths.

He's coming off a poor weekend at the FIO two weeks ago, where he ultimately ended the event losing strokes in all areas except putting. However, Torrey Pines is a totally different animal from Pebble Beach. Approach distances greatly favor Hoge at this week's layout, as the 36-year-old is the leading player in golf in strokes gained from 100-150 yards. Look for him to have a solid bounce-back performance.

Scotty Scheffler

  • Notable Finishes: T6 ('24), T9 ('25)

You're likely to see Scottie Scheffler many times in this article this season. That's usually what comes with the territory of being the world's most dominant player, going on four years now. However, two solid performances don't justify the top spot, but the wedge prowess and smart strategies off the tee are undeniable. Anything less than a victory feels like a letdown

Patrick Cantlay

  • Notable Finishes: T3 ('21), T4 ('22), T9 ('13)

It's been a couple of years since Patrick Cantlay was a factor at this event, but the 33-year-old has always put on a consistent effort here to be a safe DFS choice. His iron play is undoubtedly the strongest part of his game, and Pebble Beach really allows him to flex his muscles. Over his last 15 rounds at this tournament, he has averaged +0.501 strokes gained on approach.

Interestingly, it's been off the tee that's hurt him the most around here, which is usually one of his strongest assets. And for his reputation in making putts in the biggest moments, there is also a plethora of rounds where he doesn't seem able to make anything. As long as the putter can contribute, Cantlay is a solid option for finding his way into the conversation come Sunday.
