The Kansas City Royals announced that first baseman/outfielder Jac Caglianone (ankle) has been scratched from Sunday's starting lineup against the division-rival Detroit Tigers due to ankle soreness. John Rave will make the start in right field for KC and will bat sixth against Tigers right-hander Jacob Waguespack. Caglianone left Wednesday's contest early against the Athletics with a right-ankle injury and was also kept out in the series finale on Thursday. Apparently, the left-handed slugger is not over his ankle injury and will miss another game, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. The next opportunity he will have to play will be for Monday's series opener in Toronto against the Blue Jays. The 23-year-old former sixth overall pick from the University of Florida in 2024 got off to a slow start in 2026 in his first full year in the majors, but he's rebounded nicely and has become a must-start for his left-handed power in KC. Cags currently holds a .276/.328/.491 slash line, an .819 OPS, 22 homers, 60 RBI, 59 runs scored, and six steals in his 434 at-bats.--Keith Hernandez

Washington Nationals middle infielder CJ Abrams (ankle) is missing a fourth straight game on Sunday in the series finale in Miami against the division-rival Marlins, according to MLB.com. Nasim Nunez is at shortstop and is batting eighth, while Jose Tena will make another start at second and bat fifth for the Nats against Marlins right-hander Janson Junk. Abrams could be a candidate to land on the 10-day injured list early next week after spraining his left ankle in Wednesday's contest against the Texas Rangers. Fantasy managers will want to check back on his status on Monday before the start of a new series at home against the Colorado Rockies. The 25-year-old former first-rounder was recently asked to move from shortstop to second base, and although Abrams was not happy about the organization's decision, he is willing to do what is best for the franchise. Offensively, Abrams is in the midst of a career year and has been a must-start in all fantasy leagues, slashing .279/.354/.530 with an .884 OPS, 29 homers, 91 RBI, 24 steals, and 77 runs scored across his 124 games and 534 plate appearances in his fifth year in the majors.--Keith Hernandez

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Saturday that right-handed reliever Edwin Diaz (neck) will be eased back into a lower-leverage role in the team's bullpen once he returns from the 15-day injured list in September, according to Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register. Diaz, the Dodgers' big free-agent acquisition last offseason, has only appeared in 16 games in his first year with the team in 2026 due to elbow and neck injuries, and he has been bad when he has been available. The 32-year-old Puerto Rican hurler and three-time All-Star currently has an 11.85 ERA (6.01 FIP), 2.56 WHIP, seven saves, 19 strikeouts, and 10 walks in 13 2/3 innings pitched. Diaz will be eased in next month when he returns as the Dodgers look to get him right for the postseason, but with just over a month left in the campaign, it's fair for fantasy managers to wonder if he's even worth holding in redraft leagues. The good news is that Diaz's neck injury is not believed to be serious, and he has a chance to come off the injured list around when he is eligible to return on Sept. 2. In the meantime, lefty reliever Tanner Scott will continue to be Roberts' leading candidate for saves.--Keith Hernandez

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that right-hander Tyler Glasnow (back) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to start on Tuesday in Atlanta against the Braves, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. Glasnow will finally return to the Dodgers' starting rotation after giving up only two runs with 20 strikeouts and four walks in 13 2/3 innings in his four minor-league rehab starts. He had been on the injured list since May 8 due to lower-back spasms. The 33-year-old hard-throwing right-hander got up to 77 pitches in his final rehab outing, so he's close to being fully stretched out, although fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if the Dodgers have a short leash on him in his first outing back next week in Atlanta in a tough matchup against the Braves. Now that he is on the verge of a return to L.A., Glasnow should be rostered in most fantasy baseball leagues for his high-end strikeout upside to close out the year. Before hurting his back, the former All-Star had gone 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA and 0.83 WHIP with 49 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings pitched over his first seven starts of the 2026 season.--Keith Hernandez

The San Diego Padres announced that right-hander Casey Mize (ankle) left his start early on Saturday at Petco Park against the Minnesota Twins with a sprained right ankle. Before being pulled, Mize struggled on the mound, allowing four earned runs on four hits (three home runs) while walking one and striking out none in 2 2/3 innings pitched. The 29-year-old's next scheduled start next weekend on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays is now up in the air and will depend on how he recovers over the next few days. The former first overall pick in 2018 from Auburn has gone 5-7 on the season with a 3.44 ERA (3.28 FIP) and 1.09 WHIP with a career-high 139 strikeouts and 36 walks in 149 innings pitched across his 28 starts with the Padres and Detroit Tigers. Since being acquired by the Friars at the Aug. 3 trade deadline, Mize has struggled in four starts for San Diego, allowing 14 earned runs on 21 hits (five homers) while walking seven and fanning 10 in 18 innings. If he is cleared to make his next start, he will have a difficult matchup on tap on the road against the first-place Rays.--Keith Hernandez

The New York Yankees announced on Sunday that they placed left-hander Ryan Weathers (forearm) on the 15-day injured list with a left-forearm flexor strain and recalled right-hander Brendan Beck from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. Weathers will most likely be sidelined beyond two weeks, but we will not have a clearer picture of a timeline for his return until he undergoes an MRI exam. The Yankees' rotation depth is being tested in the dog days of summer, with Weathers joining fellow left-hander Max Fried (elbow) on the IL. The 26-year-old southpaw has gone 5-8 with a 3.60 ERA (3.60 FIP) and 1.22 WHIP with 143 strikeouts and 38 walks in 137 1/3 innings pitched in his 25 starts for the Yankees in 2026 in his first year in the Bronx. Weathers should have a rotation spot waiting for him when he is recovered from his forearm injury, but he might not have many opportunities to help fantasy managers to close out the season in September. Right-hander Will Warren's spot in the Yankees' rotation will be secure now for at least another few weeks.--Keith Hernandez

According to David Vassegh, Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani (knee) threw live batting practice ahead of Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This is the first time that Ohtani has thrown on the mound since being shut down from pitching last month. It was a 30-pitch outing, but it is certainly a step in the right direction. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said afterward that Ohtani will likely need another session before being cleared to pitch in games. His exact timetable is unclear at the moment, so fantasy managers will need to check back for more updates on his status.--Andy Webb

New York Yankees starting pitcher Ryan Weathers (forearm) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's start against the Toronto Blue Jays. Weathers was only able to get through 3.1 innings before leaving due to left forearm discomfort, Meredith Marakovits reports. It was a rough outing for Weathers, who allowed eight hits and two earned runs before exiting with a trainer early in the fourth inning. The expectation is that the 26-year-old will require additional imaging to determine the severity of the injury. His next scheduled start is against the Boston Red Sox on Friday. Fantasy managers will need to check back after the imaging is done to see if Weathers will be able to make that start.--Andy Webb

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) did not decide to have surgery and could actually return to the mound this season. According to Curt Hogg, Woodruff is scheduled to begin a throwing program on Wednesday. This is huge news after Woodruff said in July that he planned to undergo season-ending capsule repair surgery. Luckily, follow-up imaging revealed better results, and Woodruff's shoulder is actually healing. He'll begin a five-week throwing program next week, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect to get anything out of Woodruff for the rest of the season. Although this is great news for the Brewers, who could potentially have Woodruff available for the postseason.--Andy Webb

Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin (finger) has been sidelined since early July, but could be making his return to the big league roster soon. Griffin landed on the Injured List on July 7 due to a torn left ring finger. The good news is that Griffin is beginning to ramp up his baseball activities in Florida. According to Pirates manager Don Kelly, Griffin was taking swings earlier this week, and it reportedly went well. The Pirates haven't given an official timetable for his return, but believe he'll be able to return in early September. The rookie shortstop could be worth stashing depending on when he'll actually get back on the field for the Pirates.--Andy Webb

According to Joel Sherman, New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (calf) suffered a setback when he strained his other calf while running the bases over the weekend. Stanton has been out since late April due to a strained right calf. Now, he suffered a left calf injury after falling during a recent baserunning session. The Yankees haven't ruled out Stanton for the rest of the season, but it's difficult to imagine him making an impact over the final five weeks of the season. Fantasy managers shouldn't count on Stanton bringing much of anything to the table for the rest of the season.--Andy Webb

New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger (hamstring) is set to return from the 10-day Injured List on Sunday, according to Chris Kirschner. Bellinger is finally ready to return and will be back in the lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The left-handed slugger missed a month of action due to a left hamstring strain. The banged-up Yankees' offense could certainly use Bellinger's help right now. This season, Bellinger is slashing .259/.350/.420 with 11 home runs, 53 RBI, and 10 stolen bases across 102 games. He should immediately reclaim the starting gig in left field and should be rostered in all fantasy formats.--Andy Webb

Miami Marlins infield/outfield prospect Jonathon Long has four RBI and 14 runs scored in 13 games since joining Triple-A Jacksonville. Long was acquired by the Marlins from the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline. In 99 games this season with Triple-A Iowa, Long hit .283 with 12 homers and 62 RBI to go with 67 runs scored. The 24-year-old infield/outfield prospect is the No. 19 prospect in the Marlins' system and has a 50-grade hit tool with 50-grade power. Long has the versatility to play either corner infield position along with the outfield, giving him a better shot at making his debut this season. With first baseman Kyle Stowers on the IL, that also gives Long a better shot at an MLB debut. The Marlins do have good outfield depth, along with Javier Sanoja manning third base, so Long will need to break through a bit for a big-league opportunity this season.--Brian Buckey - RotoBaller

Seattle Mariners outfield prospect Lazaro Montes continues to show off his power stroke this season in the minors. Montes has eight homers and 18 RBI in August with Triple-A Tacoma and is up to 36 homers and 92 RBI between Double-A Arkansas and Tacoma this season. The left-handed hitter is the No. 5 prospect in the Mariners' system and has 65-grade power. Montes, signed out of Cuba, would offer nice power potential for fantasy teams if given a shot at promotion to Seattle. Fantasy managers can take a chance on Montes this season, but there is a good shot that he will not make his big-league debut until next season. At 21 years old, Montes could use a bit more minor league seasoning, but looks like a player who will make a big-time impact in the major leagues when he debuts.--Brian Buckey - RotoBaller

Cleveland Guardians first base prospect Ralphy Velazquez has hit three homers in his last four games at Triple-A Columbus in what has been a scorching-hot month of August for the left-handed hitter. Velazquez has 11 homers and 20 RBI this month with a .356 batting average and 17 runs scored. The 21-year-old has split time this season between Double-A Akron and Columbus and combined to hit .288 with 24 homers and 74 RBI. Velazquez is the No. 2 prospect for Cleveland and has 60-grade power with a 50-grade hit tool. If Velazquez keeps hitting at this pace this month, he should get a chance for a promotion to Cleveland. The Guardians could use the power upside that Velazquez brings, and he would be a welcome addition to many fantasy teams late this season.--Brian Buckey - RotoBaller
