After spending his entire MLB career with the Yankees, Gleyber Torres will get a fresh start at second base on a one-year deal with the Detroit Tigers. A fresh start seemed to do the trick last season when the former top prospect was slashing .215/.294/.333 with a .280 wOBA and 81 wRC+ through 327 plate appearances on June 25. After a few days of rest, the Venezuelan slashed .298/.365/.421 with a .344 wOBA and 126 wRC+ in 338 PA the rest of the way. While that was encouraging, the 28-year-old has seen his home run and RBI totals dwindle in consecutive seasons on the back of lower barrel and hard-hit rates (6.3% and 35.4% respectively in 2024). On top of that, Torres stole only four bases last season after notching double-digit totals each of the previous three seasons. On the bright side, the right-handed hitter still had a solid Contact% of 79.5% which led to a better-than-average K% of 20.5%, even walking more than he struck out during the postseason (10:7 BB:K). ATC projections have 2025 looking much like 2024, forecasting a .258-17-64-77-7 line, with RotoBaller ranking the 2x All-Star at 200 overall, slightly ahead of his NFBC ADP of 211.--Jarod Rupp
