Edward Cabrera 2022 Player Outlook: Top Prospect That Should Rebound
3 years agoMiami Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera was promoted to the big leagues toward the end of the last season but didn't perform well. Walks and the long ball hurt him during his brief MLB stint. He posted a 5.81 ERA, 8.06 xERA, 15.8 BB%, and a 2.05 HR:9 over 26 1/3 innings in 2021. Cabrera is considered the team's top prospect and should rebound in his next opportunity in the big leagues. The 23-year-old was terrific in the minors, posting a 2.93 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 92 strikeouts over 61 1/3 innings. Injuries could be why the rookie phenom struggled in September as the right-hander dealt with right biceps inflammation, a toe injury, and a season-ending blister. Cabrera will most likely start the year in Triple-A as the Marlins have some of the best pitching depth in the league, including Sandy Alcantara, Trevor Rogers, and Pablo Lopez. Cutter projects the top prospect with a 3.99 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 105 strikeouts across 95 innings in 2022. Cabrera has an ADP of 511 in NFBC leagues and is worth a late-round selection in deep-league formats if he can rack up the strikeouts and keep the walks down.
