Darren Sproles 2019 Outlook: For the Love of the Game
5 years agoDarren Sproles has been retiring for a few seasons now. His Body is failing him, and this is making it difficult for him to pull the trigger on finally calling it quits. While he is one of a handful of my favorite players his time has come. With Both Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders being added to the roster of the Eagles, Sproles is being phased out. He was only able to appear in six games in 2018 due to injury, and during those games had only 29 rushes and 15 receptions. Players like Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood are still on the roster and will take further work from the aging Sproles.
I would not be surprised if Sproles decided before the season to finally call it a career. He has been great at his position since entering the league in 2005. Unfortunately, as good as he was, he is not that player anymore. His fantasy potential, even on a good Eagles offense is equally as dire. There is no league format in which you should draft Sproles. Even in the deepest of leagues Clement or Smallwood should be rostered ahead of him. If for some reason you do draft him, he should be an option as your first waiver casualty to make room for that week’s big name. I am sorry to say it but, his time has passed. This means in drafts, you should also pass him by.
