Kyle Schwarber 2022 Player Outlook: An Elite Power Source In A Great Ballpark
3 years agoSchwarber posted the best marks of his career in 2021, slashing .266/.374/.554 with 32 homers and 71 RBI in 471 plate appearances in his time with the Nationals and Red Sox. He was one of the game's best per-game power hitters, setting a blazing pace of 43 homers over a full season's worth of PAs. He did that by slightly lowering his strikeout rate to 27% and raising the barrel rate to a career-best 18%. All of that earned him a nice new four-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he joins a suddenly scary-looking offense with Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos. The biggest impact of the move to Philadelphia is the ballpark. Citizens Bank Park is one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the league, and that fact could result in Schwarber taking his home run totals to new heights. There is not much hope for a good batting average from him as he continues to be a high strikeout guy without much foot speed, but you can live with that if you can squeeze 40 homers out of a guy going after pick 110, which just may be the case for Schwarber in 2022.
