JuJu Smith-Schuster 2021 Player Outlook: Is JuJu Elite?
4 years agoPittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster will head into 2021 as, perhaps, a make-or-break season for the talented wideout. Smith-Schuster went into free agency this past offseason and ended up re-signing with the Steelers on a one-year $8 million-dollar deal. It was not the payday Smith-Schuster was hoping for after bursting onto the fantasy scene in his first two seasons in the league. JuJu caught 97 passes last season for 831 yards and nine touchdowns. This is a far cry from the 111-1,426-7 that had him vault up the fantasy charts in 2018. The 24-year-old was a solid contributor to the Steelers passing attack but averaged only 8.6 yards per catch and 51.9 receiving yards a game. Whether it is the declining arm strength of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger or different factors, Smith-Schuster simply was unable to blow the top off of opposing defenses. He was used mostly in the bubble screen game and even was tasked with being a lead blocker outside the numbers on plays. JuJu is a 'name' player with tons of charisma and is a leader in the locker room. But he could also easily be considered a 'fool's gold' fantasy asset and carries plenty of over-draft potential. Trusting him to be a true WR1 is a tall order heading into 2021 but will be among one of the best WR2 options in upcoming drafts.
