James Robinson 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Uncertain Future Following Cut By Giants
2 years agoFormer Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson signed a two-year, $4 million deal with the New England Patriots this offseason. But he was waived by New England after just a couple of spring practices due to injuries. The New York Giants then shortly picked him up in free agency at the end of July following Saquon Barkley's possible holdout. But with Barkley and the Giants reaching a new one-year deal, Robinson was no longer needed on the roster. Following New York's third preseason game Robinson was cut from the team. With two cuts this offseason for the former undrafted running back, Robinson has an uncertain future in the NFL -- despite strong seasons in 2020 and 2021. In his first two years in the league, he was a surprise fantasy star as well, finishing as the RB7 in 2020 and RB25 in 2021 in PPR formats. However, in 2022, Robinson didn't have that same type of success. He had just 110 carries for 425 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games with the Jaguars and New York Jets. For now, Robinson will be a free agent. But he could find a backup role down the line.
