Jackie Bradley Jr. 2019 Outlook: Ready To Rebound After Second Half Surge
6 years agoIt was a tale of two halves for Boston Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. in 2018. He finished the year with a .234/.314/.403 slash line to go along with 76 runs, 13 HR, 59 RBI. These stats are nothing eye-popping for the center fielder but his career-high 17 stolen bases were noteworthy. Through the first three months of the year, it was looking like a lost year for Bradley Jr., but he made a midseason adjustment to his swing that elevated his production. Batting just .210 with a .135 ISO at the All-Star break, he improved the rest of the way with a .269 AVG and .218 ISO. The ALCS MVP also struggled to hit lefties last season, which is unusual for the 28-year old. He fell to a .185 mark, down from a very respectable .276 the year before. With a return to similar success against southpaws and a continuation from his 2018 second half, expect the batting average to remain in the .250-.260 range at the worst. With rookie manager Alex Cora, the Red Sox as a team stole more bases than the previous years suggesting that Bradley Jr.’s newfound speed on the bases is repeatable. Pair that with his improved power stroke, JBJ has a shot at a 20/20 season with potential for more home runs. Set to bat ninth for Boston he’ll be trusted with turning the lineup over to Andrew Benintendi and Mookie Betts, who has proven to be reliable at driving runners home. With an ADP currently at 234, he can provide plenty of value rounding out your outfield roster spots.
