Corey Knebel Overcomes Terrible Call To Register Third Save
7 years agoMilwaukee Brewers closer Corey Knebel went one inning, giving up no hits, no runs and one walk while striking out one in the 1-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Knebel was in a battle with Jake Lamb, who was leading off the ninth, and delivered a clear strike that home plate umpire Angel Hernandez called a ball. This allowed Lamb to start the ninth with a walk, rather than Knebel starting the ninth with a strikeout, and also led to Brewers manager Craig Counsell getting ejected. Knebel eventually sent down the next three in order and recorded his second save in as many days. On the year, he's now rocking a 4.15 ERA and three saves with 11 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings pitched. He should be owned in all formats, as he not only is a top reliever in baseball but is closing in one of the best overall bullpens, meaning he'll get plenty of chances to pitch with the lead.
