Corey Clement 2019 Player Outlook: From Super Bowl Hero To Fantasy Zero
6 years agoRemember when Clement lit up the New England Patriots for four receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown during Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LII victory? It was only a year and a half ago, yet it feels like it’s been a century. Clement did not distinguish himself at all in Philadelphia’s muddled and mediocre backfield last season. Both his yards per carry (4.3 to 3.8) and his yards per catch (12.3 to 8.7) dropped ferociously from 2017 to 2018 as he squandered his opportunity to be the Eagles’ go-to tailback after Jay Ajayi suffered a season-ending injury. Clement dealt with his own injury issues and finished the season with just 451 combined yards and two touchdowns. Now he enters the 2019 campaign battling to be the No. 3 RB on depth chart, not the No. 1 RB. Newly-signed Jordan Howard and second-round pick Miles Sanders will be Philly’s top two backs, so Clement will have to outperform Wendell Smallwood just to get on the field for a handful of snaps each week. If Clement stays in Philadelphia his fantasy value will be almost nil, so the best thing for him would be if the Eagles trade him and give him a new lease on life with another team that could give him more playing time and scoring chances.
