Alex Verdugo 2019 Outlook: With Playing Time Comes Five Category Fantasy Upside
6 years agoAnother Dodger outfielder without a clear path to playing time, Alex Verdugo offers the right fantasy production to make him worth a stash, as he should play at some point this year. The knock on Verdugo is that he is not elite in any category minus the hit tool, but owners should take the chance of multi-category production to the bank with this player profile. The main calling card is the plate discipline with a 0.57 BB/K line in 37 games with Los Angeles last campaign, and a ratio close to one in the minors. A 60-grade hit tool, with production to all fields, Verdugo will, at the minimum, be a batting average option in the outfield. Also, double-digit home run marks in the minors and nine with the Dodgers show the pop that is needed to stay in a corner spot. While not a 25-plus power option, 18-20 is a good range for a full season. Verdugo has similar marks with speed, as he stole nine bases in multiple seasons in the minors, and six with the Dodgers. A good enough fielder to stay in the line-up when a spot opens, Verdugo looks to be the epitome of what owners thought they had with Austin Meadows, good average with a 15/15 floor. With an ADP of 382, Verdugo is mighty affordable.
