Eric Gray 2023 NFL PLayer Outlook- Second-Fiddle To Saquon With A Path To Future Success
1 year agoThe New York Giants selected the running back out of Oklahoma, Eric Gray, in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. Grey was an intriguing prospect after an impressive 2022 where he dropped 1595 yards from scrimmage, scored 11 touchdowns, and averaged an impressive 5.6 yards per carry in the Big 12. At 5'9" and 207 pounds, Gray showcases impressive elusiveness in the open field, utilizing a string of cuts and changes in speed to force missed tackles. He also possesses excellent hands in the receiving game and displayed this element in his game with two seasons of over 30 receptions in his college career. His weaknesses include pass protection and long speed, as he is routinely caught from behind on breakaway runs. Gray is an intriguing prospect as stud workhorse running back Saquon Barkley is not guaranteed to stay in New York after 2023, however, he is relegated to purely a backup role as long as Barkley is on the team. If you draft Barkley this season, be sure to handcuff him with Gray in the later rounds due to his past injury history and concerns about a holdout over his contract dispute with the team. On the other hand, if you don't wind up with Barkley, Gray should not be on your draft board in redraft leagues, unless the Giants superstar holds out deep into the preseason.
