Myles Garrett 2020 Outlook: Sacks On Sacks, But That’s It
5 years agoCleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is an absolute beast of a man. The former first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft has racked up 30.5 sacks and 65 QB pressures in only 37 games, and last year, he was on pace for his best season yet. Unfortunately, he decided to rip off Mason Rudolph’s helmet and swing it at his unprotected head in Week 10 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers and was suspended for the rest of the season. Before that incident, the former Texas A&M Aggie was averaging one sack and three tackles per game, which is great for the Dawg Pound, but not so much for fantasy football. The elite IDPs rack up points from sacks, tackles, tackles for loss, forced and recovered fumbles, passes defended, interceptions, and touchdowns. However, Garrett is just a pure pass rusher and seriously lacks in statistical production outside of sacking the quarterback. Over his three-year career, the 6’4” monster only has six forced fumbles, one recovered fumble, and four batted passes, which is not going to get it done for fantasy purposes. If an IDP league has specific positions, then Superman is a fine choice for the DE spot. Otherwise, fantasy owners should focus their picks on heavy tackling linebackers and consistent turnover producers.
