Micah Parsons 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Set To Become An IDP Force In 2023
1 year agoDallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons is an elite pass rusher from the box and the defensive line. Last season, he moved to the defensive line for most of his snaps. He took 80.5% of his snaps from the line, compared to 41.5% his rookie season, and he says he considers himself a defensive end going forward. He is putting on weight this season to gain strength. The Cowboys coaching staff and front office might dispute his positional designation--as much from a negotiating standpoint as from a strategic standpoint--but it hasn't made much of an impact in terms of his fantasy production. Parsons increased his sack total, perhaps not by as big of a margin as some had hoped, from 13.0 to 13.5 and made three fumble recoveries, one of which he took for a touchdown, in his second season. He made 22 more hurries and 23 more total pressures in 2022. If he could have translated his pressures into sacks at the same rate he did as a rookie, he would have made four or five more sacks than he did. The only downside with Parsons playing more from the defensive line is that his tackle numbers took a hit. He had 19 fewer combined tackles due to a decline in tackles on running backs and receivers. As Parsons improves his run defense, he should increase his tackle numbers to add to a likely increase in pressures.
