Jarrett Stidham 2020 Outlook: A Deep League Waiver Watch
5 years agoNew England Patriots quarterback Jarrett Stidham has a place as the team's No. 1 signal-caller moving forward, or at least that’s the message they sent when they passed on Jordan Love in the 2020 NFL Draft. Whether this move pays off for New England or not indicates that the team is willing to give Stidham a full season or more to audition as their long-term starter. That level of trust coming from such a historically great franchise should carry some weight with fantasy owners, especially when you consider that Stidham has the arm and mobility to put up stats while throwing to the likes of Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry, James White, and Mohamed Sanu. In fact, Stidham is so mobile that he could realistically add three or four fantasy points with his legs each week. With that said, Stidham had an atrocious debut against the Jets last year, and he carries far too much risk to be worth a roster spot in standard 10-team fantasy leagues. Thus, while Stidham’s current ADP of 254th overall (i.e., undrafted) is fair in standard formats, he is worth following on waivers in deep leagues and in two-quarterback formats. Shrewd fantasy owners with bench space may even consider using a late-round pick to select Stidham as a backup in two-QB or in 16-team dynasty leagues.
