Jamison Crowder 2021 Outlook: From Top Target To Odd Man Out?
4 years agoSome people believed the New York Jets overpaid Crowder when they inked him to a three-year, $28.5 million contract during the 2019 offseason. He proved his worth by leading the team with 137 receptions for 1,532 yards and 12 touchdowns in 28 games. Now that New York traded former franchise quarterback Sam Darnold and drafted new franchise quarterback Zach Wilson, you might think that means Crowder's fantasy worth will skyrocket if Wilson turns out to be another Justin Herbert. The problem is the Jets are acting as if Crowder is the odd man out in the receiving corps rather than the top target. They signed Corey Davis to a multimillion-dollar deal to be the No. 1 WR and selected speedy Mississippi pipsqueak Elijah Moore in April's draft to play at Crowder's spot in the slot. The rumor is the Jets want Crowder to take a pay cut or else he will get cut. While Crowder is a great possession receiver who moves the chains, he is not a gamechanger worth the big bucks. If Crowder is released and ends up on a different team his fantasy value will depend on his standing in that offense and the quarterback throwing to him. If he and the Jets work out the money and he stays put, then his fantasy value will revolve around his role in the receiving corps and how well Wilson does at QB. Crowder will be a WR3 or WR4 on a fantasy squad, depending on where he ends up before training camp.
