Hunter Renfrow 2020 Outlook: PPR Diamond In The Rough
5 years agoLas Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow finished 2019 in scorching fashion, posting at least six catches for 100 yards and a touchdown in each of his last two games. Despite his stellar finish, there is zero hype surrounding the former Clemson Tiger heading into 2020. Maybe it is because the Raiders drafted Henry Ruggs III in the first-round of the 2020 NFL Draft, or maybe the fantasy community at large looks at tight end Darren Waller as the go-to option for Derek Carr in the middle of the field, but whatever the reason, Renfrow is going to be a tremendous value come draft day. The 5’10” rookie finished with a stat line of 49 receptions for 605 yards and four touchdowns, but as the season went on, he earned Carr’s trust and became his favorite receiver down the stretch, averaging 6.8 targets per game after Week 8. Further, the addition of Ruggs should only help open things up for Renfrow in the slot, and Derek Carr’s unwillingness to throw the ball downfield (7.9 yards per attempt and two deep-ball passes per game) fits right in his wheelhouse (8.5 yards per target). Think of him as a Wes Welker-lite. It also does not hurt that head coach Jon Gruden absolutely loves him. The shifty slot receiver is currently a screaming value in ADP as WR53, and he is the most likely candidate to lead the Raiders in targets and receptions this season. Between his ADP and his projected role in the Raiders’ offense, something does not add up, so fantasy owners would be wise to take advantage of his price and draft him as their WR5. By the middle of the season, he just may be a weekly starter for their squad.
