Gregory Polanco 2020 Outlook: Injury Discount Brings Value
5 years agoGregory Polanco was limited to 42 games in 2019, as he experienced soreness from his surgically-repaired shoulder throughout the year. Reports indicate that Polanco is currently able to throw 120-feet and the hope is that he will head into Spring Training with no restrictions. Polanco is a former top prospect with an intriguing mix of power and speed. Don't put too much stock into last season's poor slash of .242/.301/.425 due to the shoulder injury. Back in 2018, Polanco posted .254/.340/.499 with 23 HR and 12 SB in 535 PAs. He showed strong plate discipline with an 11.4 BB% and 21.4 K%. He also hit the ball much harder, increasing his Barrel% from 3.8% to 9.4%. While there is a definite risk in his lingering shoulder injury sapping some of his power, his low draft cost of 313 ADP makes him a worthy investment. He's currently being drafted behind outfielders with less upside, like Corey Dickerson and Kevin Kiermaier. Entering his age-28 season, Polanco is the ideal late-round pick due to his tantalizing combination of power and speed. There is low risk in this draft cost and high reward with his upside, so this is definitely a player to target in your drafts.
