Eric Ebron 2018 Outlook: New Location, Same Destination
6 years agoEric Ebron is the ex that comes back in your life two weeks after you’ve broken up vowing that they’ve changed. Thing is, we’re now entering year five of the toxic relationship which hasn’t produced much more than expletives, excessive alcohol consumption, and heartbreak. Despite playing in a Lions offense which ranked among the Top-10 in passing in two of his four NFL seasons (12th in 2014, 11th in 2016), Ebron hasn’t finished higher than 8th in yards at the tight end position, averaged 2.8 TDs per season (five is his career-high), and has never finished among the Top-10 TEs in terms of fantasy points. If that’s not enough, questions around Andrew Luck’s health still loom heavy, and the presence of T.Y. Hilton (five-straight 100+ target seasons) and Jack Doyle (108 targets a season ago) only further complicate the issue. Not to mention, rarely do we see two TEs on the same team put up fantasy relevant numbers, and outside of Hilton/Doyle, no Colts receiver put up 400 yards or more than two TDs a season ago. Ebron will surely have a Top-10 week or two (good luck predicting them), but he’s #3 - at best - in the Colts’ pecking order and there isn’t much to suggest more than the 500 yards and handful of TDs he’s given us throughout his pro career. Even with a healthy Luck. If you choose to take him back, you’ll surely be quickly reminded why you broke up in the first place - he’s nothing more than a late-round flier in re-draft leagues.
