Derek Carr 2019 Player Outlook: Looks to Take Advantage of Reloaded Arsenal
5 years agoDerek Carr has been in the NFL for five seasons, yet we're still waiting for the proverbial "breakout". Carr may finally have the weapons around him to make it happen, assuming the health of all of his new additions. Antonio Brown is already dealing with extensive foot issues, but should he miss time Carr still has Tyrell Williams, J.J. Nelson and rookie Hunter Renfrow all ready to make an impact. Hopefully Brown will heal up and allow Carr to uncork it a bit more than last year, as he played the most conservative football of his career in 2018. He set career-best marks in completion percentage (69%) and interceptions (10), but also threw for a career-low 19 touchdowns. Carr has the potential to take a step forward in his second year under Jon Gruden, but if Antonio Brown isn't healthy it's not a wise bet. Carr is a mid-range QB2 headed into 2019.
