D.J. Chark Jr. 2020 Outlook: Jacksonville’s Top Weapon Looks To Repeat 2019 Breakout
5 years ago2019 saw second-year Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver D.J. Chark Jr. emerge seemingly from nowhere to become a viable fantasy WR2. After a rookie campaign in 2018 that saw Chark catch 14 passes for 174 and struggle to find consistent playing time, 2019 was a breakout campaign for the former LSU Tiger. Chark finished last season with 73 catches on 118 targets, with 1008 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Chark averaged 8.9 yards per reception on throws from quarterback Gardner Minshew II against 7.4 on throws from Nick Foles, which is a good sign with Minshew expected to be the full season starter this year. The one possible concern? 37.5 percent of Chark’s touchdowns were from Foles despite only 20.5 percent of his total receptions coming from Foles. We could see Chark struggle to get into the end zone this year, but his target share should remain high and he stands a good chance of reaching 1000 receiving yards for the second year in a row. Currently being drafted as a mid-tier WR2, Chark should be a valuable player for any fantasy team that has him, though there’s just enough uncertainty here with Minshew that I’d worry if I went into 2020 with him penciled in as my top wide receiver option.
