Blake Martinez 2022 NFL Player Outlook: A Return To Tackle Dominance
2 years agoNo player has had the tackle consistency of New York Giants linebacker Blake Martinez over the past five seasons. During that span, Martinez finished as one of the NFL's top-three tacklers every year except in 2021, when he suffered a season-ending injury in September. That's incredible consistency when you consider no other player finished top-three in tackles more than twice during that span (according to NFL.com). While the former Packer is still rehabbing from his ACL tear, he will be 11 months removed from that injury on opening day, and the Giants haven't made any move to replace him. For now, we are projecting Martinez to start in Week 1 and continue dominating in tackle-premium IDP leagues. If the Stanford alum is healthy, fantasy managers should expect him to remain a dependable LB1 with minimal big-play upside. Given concerns about his injury, Martinez may prove to be a draft-day bargain as casual fantasy managers forget about him and educated drafters fade his rebuilt knee.
