Jack Flaherty Looks To Leave a Rough Cup of Coffee Behind
7 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals rookie starting pitcher Jack Flaherty had a rude welcome into the big leagues in 2017. He appeared in six games, starting five, and pitching to an 0-2 record with a 6.33 ERA. He struck out 8.44 per nine innings but walked 4.22 in that span. Flaherty has huge upside, however. He's a top pitching prospect in the St. Louis system and one of the top-50 prospects in all of baseball. His minor league numbers show an ability to keep runners off base and to keep runs from scoring. He won't be a huge strikeout guy, but he'll punch out about eight per nine innings, certainly a solid enough number from a starter. He's still just 22, so the Cardinals may choose to have him spend a little more time in the minors to start the year. He's certainly someone to keep an eye on in redraft leagues, though.
