Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitcher Waiver Pickups Week 15

Kyle Bradish - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News, Betting Picks

Nick's fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for starting pitchers and Week 15 of the 2023 MLB season. Consider adding and streaming these free-agent pitchers.

Welcome back RotoBallers to our starting pitcher fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups recommendations for Week 15 of the fantasy baseball season (July 3 - July 9). My name is Nick Shlain and this is my fourth week of writing this column, but I should be sticking around for the rest of the season.

The season continues to fly by with only one week until the MLB All-Star break as the fantasy baseball season rolls along. With that being said, baseball is the longest fantasy season so there's still plenty of time to make up ground in the fantasy standings and upgrade your rosters for a playoff run. We're looking to make up some of that ground on the mound here.

Today we'll be taking a look at some promising recent prospect call-ups, some veterans arms who may be improving, and the best pitcher still in the minor leagues to stash to help fantasy managers. Good luck on the waiver wire this week!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

Waiver Wire Pickups for Shallow Leagues

Pitcher pickup recommendations for leagues of any size

Domingo German, New York Yankees (40% Rostered)

German is coming off of pitching a perfect game so I thought he'd be even a little more popular. He wasn't pitching well at all before the perfect game and it came in an easy matchup on the road at Oakland. All of your fantasy pitching problems might not be solved by adding German, but he also struck out nine batters against the Athletics so that will help.

German will pitch twice this week against the Orioles and the Cubs so he'll be even more valuable in weekly formats.

J.P. France, Houston Astros (28% Rostered)

France has been on a good run for Houston recently. He has five straight starts with at least six innings pitched and no more than three earned runs allowed. France isn't a big-time strikeout pitcher as he's struck out at least five batters just four times in 10 starts.

He has two good matchups next week with the Rockies and Mariners on tap so he should be able to keep the good results coming in.

Kyle Bradish, Baltimore Orioles (43% Rostered)

Bradish has pitched great recently and seems to be a key part of the Orioles' rotation as the trade deadline approaches. If Baltimore is serious about a playoff run this year they'll need to add starting pitching, but it won't be Bradish who is getting displaced from the rotation after a potential trade.

Bradish has struck out at least seven batters in four of his last five starts so obviously he'll help out your team if you're desperate for strikeouts.

Clarke Schmidt, New York Yankees (22% Rostered)

Schmidt still has a 4.37 ERA and a 4.39 xFIP on the season, but he hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last eight starts. He hasn't been as good with the strikeouts so I'd prefer to pick up Bradish, but he can certainly help in that category as well.

Schmidt is also pitching twice this week which gives him more value in weekly formats.

Waiver Wire Pickups for Deeper Leagues

Pitcher pickup recommendations for deeper leagues

Bryan Woo, Seattle Mariners (30% Rostered)

Woo has been pitching great this year but is still flying under the radar. Fantasy managers might see his 4.37 ERA and scoff, but Woo has a 3.08 xFIP. He's also struck out at least seven batters in three of his last four starts.

He should definitely be rostered in more than 30% of leagues and could be a big help to fantasy pitching staffs in the second half.

Griffin Canning, Los Angeles Angels (36% Rostered)

Canning is another guy that should be rostered in more leagues. He has a 3.95 xFIP this season and has struck out at least seven batters in three of his last four starts. He's even won six of his 13 starts pitching for the Angels.

I like Canning as a long-term add for the rest of the season given the way he's pitched recently. He should be able to help if you're desperate for strikeouts.

David Peterson, New York Mets (13% Rostered)

Peterson is pitching on Sunday Night Baseball so the results of that game might help decide if you want to pick him up or not. Peterson has a 7.00 ERA, but his xFIP is a respectable 3.43 this season. He's much better than his results and should start to prove that soon.

If you need help in deeper formats, Peterson could be a diamond in the rough if he can make his ERA look more like his xFIP for the rest of the season.

Starting Pitcher Waiver Wire Stashes

Eduardo Rodriguez, Detroit Tigers (82% Rostered)

Rodriguez is returning to the Tigers rotation sometime next week. He was on track to make the All-Star team before getting injured and with his return imminent he needs to be rostered in all leagues now.

Rodriguez had a 2.13 ERA and 0.98 WHIP before his injury and the Tigers have the easiest remaining schedule in all of baseball. He could be an absolute stud for teams that roster him upon his return.
