Beating the Week Two Waiver Wire: Last Minute Adds

Welcome to Week 2 of the season RotoBallers. The fantasy football season is basically 17 week-long cycles where you go through a process of trying to create a team with the best chance to win for the week and for the season. Generally, the week goes something like this; Sunday you get up and indulge in as many games as you possibly can.

You play Monday Morning Quarterback the following day analyzing what you saw. Tuesday and Wednesday you start tinkering with your team for the week by adjusting lineups and pouring over waiver wire articles which should be coming from our talented RotoBaller writing staff (Yes, that's a shameless plug to my own RB article. Also check out our WR and QB articles from Week 2). By Thursday some serious decisions need to be made and an initial lineup needs to be set in time for the Thursday night game, which of course you will find a way to watch. Finally you get out of work Friday and see a glorious weekend ahead.

But the work is not done my friends. The moves that you make Friday and Saturday can change the result of your game that week and maybe even the outcome of your season. By this time, injury reports are out, practice notes are in, and even though the waiver wire has been picked over earlier in the week, there are still some potential week-saving gems sitting out there. Which brings us to the point of this article... to find those fill-in, desperation waiver wire gems that can win you a week or be valuable over the course of a season. Again, the high priority waiver wire finds have been written about all week. Here, we are digging a little deeper and finding guys that you can use in a pinch, or long shots that may play out down the road.

Last Minute Waiver Wire Adds: Quarterbacks (QB)

Tyrod Taylor (BUF) - 23% owned in FleaFlicker leagues

Taylor racked up 195 yards passing, and a sweet deep ball TD to Percy Harvin, in the Bill thumping of the Colts in Week 1. Perhaps more importantly, Taylor was able to rack up 41 yards on the ground making him a top 16 QB for the week. Taylor faces off against division rival New England this week - and while I expect the Bills to keep it closer than most, Taylor should be dropping back to pass quite often in an attempt to keep pace with Tom Brady and company. Dropping back to pass doesn't more doesn't just mean that T-Mobile will add to his passing totals from last week, but also that his improvisation and scrambling skills will be on full display.

Last Minute Waiver Wire Adds: Running Backs (RB)

Karlos Williams (BUF) - 22% owned in FleaFlicker leagues

Did anyone see what DeAngelo Williams, the 32 year-old "washed up" running back did last week against the Patriots? In case you missed it, DeAngelo went for 132 total yards on 28 touches. This week it's another Williams RB that could go off against the Pats run defense. Karlos Williams looked very explosive last week, turning six carries into 55 yards and a touchdown. LeSean McCoy is once again expected to play this week, but he's had issues practicing with a hamstring injury and is officially questionable. The Bills have gone on record saying that they overused McCoy a bit in Week 1, so expect more Karlos Williams to be in the mix and if McCoy were to ever really aggravate the injury Williams would be the lead back.

Lance Dunbar (DAL) - 37% owned in FleaFlicker leagues

This is a truly desperate play, but with Dez Bryant out Dallas is going to have to find other ways to move the ball through the air. They did this very effectively last week, by using Dunbar as a receiver out of the backfield against the Giants, where he racked up eight catches for 70 yards. I don't know if he'll get that many looks every week - but this week in what should be a high scoring, fast-paced game against the Eagles, I could see Dunbar playing a similar role.

Last Minute Waiver Wire Adds: Wide Receivers (WR)

Cole Beasley (DAL) - 15% owned in FleaFlicker leagues

See Dunbar, Lance on the reason why Beasley should get plenty of balls this week. In the previous two seasons, Beasley has turned 103 total targets into 76 catches for 788 yards and six TDs. On a per target basis, that equates to 1.11 points per target. Beasley got six targets in Week 1 with Dez only missing part of the game - so isn't it conceivable that in a shootout with the Eagles, Beasley gets 10 targets? If so, his numbers from the past two years tell us that he should convert those targets into 10+ fantasy points.

Brandon Coleman (NO) - 30% owned in all FleaFlicker leagues

Will the new Marques Colston please stand up? Coleman is the new Colston in New Orleans, and while I think many saw this coming, few predicted that it would happen this quickly. Coleman already looked like the new Colston, racking up seven targets and converting those opportunities into four catches for 41 yards and a athletic RAC TD. New Orleans is back at home this week where that passing game is only going to get more potent.

Last Minute Waiver Wire Adds: Tight Ends (TE)

Ladarius Green (SD) - 33% owned in all FleaFlicker leagues

Week 1 belonged to the tight ends, as 13 players at the position racked up double digit fantasy points. Green was one of those players, getting targeted early and often by Philip Rivers, and finishing with five catches for 74 yards and a TD. Green has been a fantasy sleeper for years now, but with Antonio Gates out for the first four weeks, opportunity has finally knocked and thus far Green has answered.
