Fantasy Basketball Guards: Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 20

Need waiver wire advice for Week 20 and your fantasy basketball team? Brad Leibfried has you covered with his NBA analysis of guards and the best waiver wire pickups at the position.

Now that we are past the NBA trade deadline, new players are finding new roles making them solid late season additions to your fantasy basketball team. Let's take a look at some guards that can be useful off the waiver wire:

Waiver Wire Pickups for Guards

Ramon Sessions: Sessions has always been able to find his spot in the league as a solid backup point guard.  While he was in Charlotte he was not getting enough time behind Kemba Walker to be an effective fantasy option.  Now in Milwaukee, he has been able to carve out nearly 24 minutes a game for their inexperienced backcourt.  Sessions has scored in double figures in four of his last five games while also dishing out 18 assists in that stretch.  He will also give you a huge bump in free throw percentage as his past four games have combined for 25/25 from the charity stripe.  Sessions in a solid performer that will not hurt you anywhere and it is also important to note that Milwaukee plays five games next week making him a great play next week.

Jordan Farmar: It seems safe to say now that he is healthy and Steve Nash is out for the season, Farmar will soon be the team’s starting point guard.  Farmar has had a few great stretches this year for the Lakers and is coming off of a game February 28th where he had 30 points while making 8 triples.  He is a great long range shooter, evidenced by the fact he has at least 1 three pointer made in all nine games he has played since returning from injury.  Farmar is also averaging 5 assists on the season which gives him an all-around game to be a viable option on any fantasy team.

Guards to Keep an Eye on:

MarShon Brooks: A former first round pick, Brooks has been extremely inconsistent throughout his career.  However, in Los Angeles he may be able to carve out playing time on an awful Lakers squad.  He did have a 23 point game last week against the Kings which shows some of his potential.

Gary Neal: In the same deal that took Sessions to Milwaukee, Neal was given new life in Charlotte.  With Gerald Henderson hurt, Neal has played over 20 minutes in four straight games while putting in over 10 points in all of them.  He is a long range sniper that can be a quick source of three’s and points.
