Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 10:
Rico Dowdle, RB, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers running back Rico Dowdle had 25 rushing attempts, 130 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns during Sunday's Week 9 win over the Green Bay Packers. He also caught two of his three targets for an additional 11 receiving yards.
Dowdle was named the official lead back ahead of this week's game, and he wasted no time confirming the coaching staff made the right decision with his role. He averaged at least 4.65 yards per carry for the fifth consecutive week, bringing his season total to 5.61 YPC. After being somewhat of a non-factor through the first four weeks of the season, Dowdle has suddenly emerged as a potential league-winner in fantasy football.
He is the RB3 in PPR leagues over the last five weeks, as well as the overall RB9 over the full nine weeks since the season began. He has a firm grasp on the No. 1 role in Carolina and should be deployed as a strong RB1 option in fantasy football ahead of next week's game against the New Orleans Saints.
Quentin Johnston, WR, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston bounced back on Sunday in the team's 27-20 win over the Tennessee Titans, catching four passes for 53 yards and a touchdown, his sixth of the season. After not being targeted last week, Johnston was quickly integrated into the game plan and made the most of his opportunities.
However, the Chargers' offensive line remains a major concern after losing Joe Alt (ankle) for the season and surrendering six sacks to a short-handed Titans defense. Next week, the Bolts face a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that has been vulnerable all season but recently held the red-hot Indianapolis Colts in check.
Johnston remains a volatile WR3 with touchdown upside if Herbert can avoid pressure and connect with him downfield.
Courtland Sutton, WR, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton faced a lot of resistance in Sunday morning's game against the Houston Texans, ending with just one catch for a 30-yard touchdown in Sunday's 18-15 win.
In what we knew would be a heavily defensive matchup, Sutton was second on the team in targets with six as the Texans' defense made it a point to blanket cover Sutton, as he was the targeted receiver on quarterback Bo Nix's lone interception for the day.
Broncos wide receiver Troy Franklin would end up leading the team in targets again this week with 10, which marks two straight weeks that Sutton was out-targeted by the latter. With weekly touchdown upside, Sutton should look to produce more in a division rival matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 10.
Kayshon Boutte, WR, New England Patriots
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said that wide receiver Kayshon Boutte (hamstring) is unlikely to practice at the start of this week after he injured his hamstring in the one-point win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9, according to Chad Graff of The Athletic.
Boutte's status for the Week 10 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is "up in the air." The 23-year-old was looking to score for the fourth straight game on Sunday, but instead, he finished with zero catches on just one target before leaving the contest and not returning.
Fantasy managers should have a better idea of Boutte's Week 10 status later this week, but as of right now, he's questionable, at best. DeMario Douglas, who had his first 100-yard game and scored against Atlanta, would be in flex territory in fantasy as the WR2 for the Pats against Tampa if Boutte is eventually ruled out.
Kimani Vidal, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Kimani Vidal followed a standout Week 8 performance with a dud, gaining only 30 yards on 12 carries in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Tennessee Titans. He averaged just 2.5 yards per carry and was outperformed by both Justin Herbert (57 rushing yards) and Jaret Patterson (44 yards), who was elevated from the practice squad again.
It's been a rollercoaster for Vidal, who alternates between breakout games and quiet ones. With Hassan Haskins (hamstring) and Omarion Hampton (ankle) both on IR until at least after the Week 12 bye, Vidal will continue to handle lead duties out of necessity. Next Sunday night, the Chargers face a Pittsburgh Steelers' defense that just shut down the league's top running back, Jonathan Taylor, so expectations should remain modest.
With so many injuries and inconsistencies, it will be interesting to see if the Bolts' front office makes any trades to strengthen the running back position by the trade deadline tomorrow. For now, Vidal remains an RB3/FLEX option who relies on game script and red-zone opportunities.
