Velus Jones Jr. 2022 NFL Player Outlook – Inexpensive WR2 With Low Ceiling
2 years agoMany were baffled by the Chicago Bears' decision to take the 25-year-old sixth-year senior in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft, but Velus Jones Jr. does have a simple path to opportunity. Other than Darnell Mooney, there aren't any established receivers in the Chicago WR room. On day two, draft capital Jones will get a chance to make an immediate impact. However, we can project Chicago as one of the worst offenses in the NFL, primarily through the air. Expect Chicago to rank near the bottom of the league in passing yards, passing touchdowns, red-zone trips, and all the other vital stats we look for when evaluating potential fantasy studs. With glaring holes in Jones' prospect profile (age 24 breakout), there's not much to get excited about. He's likely a gadget player who will be fun to watch in real life but won't pay dividends in fantasy football. All that said, he's going off the board as the WR106 in fantasy drafts, so it's not crazy to take a shot on him in the final round. He's more likely to produce than some of the players ahead of him – i.e., Kyle Philips and Justyn Ross.
