Jorge Soler 2022 Player Outlook: Cheap Power With An Improving Contact Rate
3 years agoSoler revived his dying fantasy stock in 2021 by delivering a season with 27 homers, 74 runs, and 70 RBI. His .223 batting average was still a dagger to your fantasy team, but things rapidly improved right around the middle of the year. From June 1st on, he struck out just a 20% clip, an incredible improvement on his career average of 27%. He also kept on barreling the ball frequently, posting a 12.4% for the year. The signing with the Marlins is a downgrade for sure as he joins a worse lineup in a tougher ballpark, but few parks can contain Soler’s raw power, and the contact gains we saw in 2021 make him very interesting for fantasy this year. The outfield position is full of power hitters, especially in the later rounds, but nobody should be faulting you for taking Soler at his current ADP of around 180 if you’re in need of some homers.
