Dominick's Week 6 college football quarterback rankings for 2025. His top national QBs for Week 5, including Dante Moore, Ty Simpson, Carson Beck, and more.

For the second week in a row, there is a new No. 1 in the QB ranks. This time, though, it is a familiar face.

With last week having such an amazing slate of games, there was a bit of movement. This week, with what looks like a much less chaotic week of games, the movement may be minimal.

With this in mind, let’s look at the rankings going into Week 6 of the college football season.

Top 10 College Football Quarterbacks for Week 6

Dante Moore, Oregon

1,210 yards, 14 touchdowns, and one INT. These are the numbers Moore, who returns to No. 1, has put up in 2025. But this does not tell the whole story.

This Saturday against Penn State was the first time Moore had played an entire game. It was good that he was rested as this game went to double overtime before Oregon pulled out the win.

This was an elite defensive battle until the end of the third quarter. After this, Moore, the first-year starter for the Ducks, showed he has the talent surrounding him to take over a game in crunch time.

Finishing with  248 yards and three touchdowns on 29-of-39 passing, Moore proved himself the best quarterback in the country right now.

Penn State has a top-5 defense in the country. Oregon is not far behind. Both teams attempted to control the game. It was Moore who was able to break the hold first and get the Ducks into the end zone.

With no Ohio State on the schedule this season, it is difficult to find who will be able to beat this team, and, with the new playoff seeding structure, we will not have to watch the two best teams in the nation play in the quarterfinals either. Finally, a win-win.

Ty Simpson, Alabama

Alabama lost to Florida State in Week 1, and we all thought the sky was falling.

Simpson did not play badly in this game. He was late with some throws, but this can be cleaned up. This has led the Crimson Tide to regain a top-10 ranking in the AP poll. It also led Alabama to a 24-21 road victory over Georgia on Saturday. A game in which both offenses looked great in the first half and both defenses shut everything down in the second half.

A classic SEC game quarterbacked by a classic Alabama signal caller.

Simpson is not flashy. He is determined, steady, and, after waiting behind other quarterbacks for three years without transferring, motivated to prove himself.

Simpson's Season stats with 1,138 yards with 11 touchdowns, and zero INT are good enough with the defense Alabama brings to the game.

Against Georgia in their most important game to date, Simpson finished 24-of-38 for 276 yards and two touchdowns. He was also able to avoid taking any sacks against Georgia and rushed four times for 12 yards and one rushing touchdown.

Simpson accounted for both of the Crimson Tide's rushing touchdowns, and if the running game can ever get going for Alabama, they will be the best team in the country alongside Ohio State and Oregon.

Fernando Mendoza, Indiana

After 21-of-23 for 267 yards and five touchdowns against Illinois, Mendoza went on the road for the first time this season to Iowa. This did not go as well, with Mendoza finishing 13-of-23 for 233 yards, two touchdowns, and one INT.

While Iowa normally has a great defense and especially back seven, this is not as much the case in 2025. Mendoza just struggled a bit in his first Big Ten road game. For this reason, he had to be lowered in the ranks.

Mendoza is still one of the top quarterbacks in the country. Ran Carthon of CBS Sports and former GM of the Tennessee Titans stated that Mendoza still needs to be considered at No. 1 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.

With this said, he cannot drop too far down the rankings. But there were two quarterbacks playing at a higher level for the moment.

Carson Beck,  Miami (FL)

After a great game against Florida, Beck and Miami had a bye week before their showdown in Tallahassee against Florida State and Tommy Castellanos.

FSU, coming off another Friday loss in an ACC game, will hope Miami cooled off during the bye week. Otherwise, the best offensive line in the country will protect Beck and allow him to carve up the Seminoles' defense. If he does, Beck will move up these rankings next week.

Sawyer Robertson, Baylor

Baylor beat Oklahoma State 45-27 on Saturday in Stillwater. Normally, this may have made some headlines. Instead, Mike Gundy had been fired earlier in the week, and the Cowboys are just attempting to get to the end of the season to reboot.

Robertson took full advantage of this as he went 24-of-35 for 393 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Bears to victory.

This line brings his season starts to 1,728 yards with 17 touchdowns and three INT. Robertson has played in five games thus far and has not thrown for less than three touchdowns in any contest. As the competition gets more challenging, finding out if he can continue this path will show how much of a challenger Baylor really is in the Big XII.

Luke Altmyer, Illinois

After a week in which the Illini came back from a 53-point defeat to beat USC 34-32, Altmyer was going to gain a spot back in the rankings. To see the quarterback have a passing, rushing, and receiving touchdown made him elevate higher than just making the list. Altmyer needed to go up a bit.

With 11 touchdowns and zero INT on the season, Altmyer is keeping Illinois as a real contender to make the CFB playoffs. If Illinois can get a bit of luck in its remaining games, this could be a magical season for the Illini and their fans.

Beau Pribula, Missouri

Talk about easy scheduling, Missouri has used this template to start the season undefeated, heading into their bye week.

This week saw a game against UMass and the obligatory defeat of the Minutemen.

Pribula was fine. The team did not really do anything special. There was no need to, and it was more important to get out of the game clean. The Tigers did so, and with the meat of the SEC schedule ahead, look for Pribula to show if he truly belongs on the ranking list or if it was a product of competition.

Malik Washington, Maryland

Washington was never supposed to start for Mike Locksley and the Terrapins.

Maryland, desperate for a quarterback, took transfer Justyn Marin from UCLA. Hoping he could bridge the gap until next season. On top of Martin, Maryland also brought in a second quarterback in the recruiting class in Khristian Martin. But, with his play in the preseason and thus far in the regular season, it looks as though the coaching staff has made the smart decision.

In the first four games, the 6’5", 230-pound Washington has been great. It has certainly come against overmatched opponents in the likes of Florida Atlantic and Towson. This week, the challenges will start as the Washington Huskies come to town. Washington has even been lucky in this matchup, as it is coming in off a physical game against the No. 1-ranked Ohio State. They are now flying across the country to play this game. The only way it could be better for Maryland is if the game started at noon rather than 3:30 p.m.

Washington, who is 80-of-134 for 1,038 yards, has shown a calm mentality despite being a first-year starter. With eight touchdowns to only one INT, he has also shown the knack for finding the right reads and receivers. Although not a runner at 6’5 and 230, Washington does have two rushing touchdowns on nine carries. This ability keeps defenses honest around the goal line. If he can remain physical near the end zone, this will be another dimension opponents must look for from the Terrapins' offense.

At the rate Washington is going, he could be the best quarterback in the Big Ten for the next two years if Maryland can pay the man.

Josh Hoover, TCU

Hoover continues his rollercoaster trip up and down these rankings. There is good and bad this season, and this is what keeps him interesting.

In one less game than Robertson, Hoover has passed for 1,242 yards, 11 touchdowns, and four interceptions. While the four interceptions are a bit concerning based on opponent, Hoover and TCU are still contenders for the Big XII.

This was true right up to the game against Arizona State this past week, when the Horned Frogs blew a 17-0 lead and lost to the Sun Devils 27-24.

Not all the blame is on the arm of Hoover. But, he did have his worst showing of the season, going 20-of-32 for 242 yards and zero INT.

With no touchdowns in this game, it was going to be difficult for TCU to win. This proved true, and in his first road challenge, Hoover was unsuccessful. After another week of practice and tweaks, it will be interesting to find out how he manages the next challenge when it arrives.

Haynes King, Georgia Tech

King is holding on by a thread.

After defeating Clemson to gain a national ranking, Georgia Tech went into Winston-Salem as a 17.5-point favorite against Wake Forest. Like many teams coming off an emotional game, the Yellow Jackets could not keep up their energy. It took overtime for King to lead GT to a 30-29 win over the Demon Deacons.

While King does not get all the blame for this struggle, a hit must be taken, as others on this list had far better games.

Bryce Underwood, Michigan

No longer having Underwood in the top 10 is not a slight to the talented young man. He was off this week, and others played great. But do not worry, another first-year student is taking his place, even though he, too, did not suit up this week.
