Kimani Vidal 2026 Fantasy Football Outlook: Can Shine If Hampton Hurt Again

Aug 23, 2026, 4:57 PM ET

Kimani Vidal started off the 2025 season as the third-string running back behind then-rookie runner Omarion Hampton and veteran bull rusher Najee Harris. Then the injury bug bit both of the backs in front of him, and suddenly Vidal was thrust into the top tailback spot on the Los Angeles Chargers. Vidal took advantage and posted three 100-yard games and held down the fort until Hampton returned late in the season. He finished with 643 rushing yards and looked like a lock to be Hampton's RB2 for 2026, but now he is battling former Baltimore Raven Keaton Mitchell for the second spot in the running back pecking order. Vidal is built low to the ground and is a powerful runner, making him hard to handle between the tackles and the perfect compliment to Hampton. But as it is Vidal would only have fantasy relevance as an insurance policy if you drafted Hampton first for your fantasy team, so if he loses his backup job to Mitchell than Vidal would be virtually undraftable as the Chargers RB3 except in deep dynasty leagues.--Craig Rondinone
