Week 2 Tight End Rankings Outlooks

George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle (hamstring) is likely to miss three to five weeks with the hamstring injury that he suffered in the Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, a source tells Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. It makes Kittle a candidate to land on Injured Reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games. The 49ers' offense is dropping like flies, with receiver Jauan Jennings suffering a shoulder injury on Sunday and quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder, toe) dealing with multiple injuries that could keep him out in Week 2 versus the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy managers should not be dropping Kittle, but it may be a while before we see him back on the field. Jake Tonges and Luke Farrell will be tasked with picking up the slack at the TE position, but they won't be realistic fantasy streamers, especially if Purdy also misses some time.

Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers (knee) is considered day-to-day on Monday after he left the Week 1 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday and did not return, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Bowers also downplayed his knee injury and said there are no concerns, suggesting that he should be just fine to play in a Week 2 divisional tilt next Monday night versus the Los Angeles Chargers. The 22-year-old second-year tight end could be rested once the Raiders open their practice week on Thursday, but all signs are pointing to him being available as a must-start TE this coming week.

Bowers was lobbying to return to Sunday's game against the Pats, but the Raiders didn't want to take any chances with a player who has quickly become one of the best TEs in the NFL. Despite leaving early, Bowers still managed five catches on eight targets for 103 yards.

Cade Stover, Houston Texans

Houston Texans second-year tight end Cade Stover (foot) broke his foot in Sunday's game against the Rams and will be out indefinitely. On a day where the Texans' passing attack found limited success, Stover led the team with four catches, which he turned into 22 yards. After a quiet rookie season, it's unlikely Stover was rostered in many leagues, and that will unfortunately remain the case after one of the best games of his young career. With Christian Kirk (hamstring) still sidelined, the Texans are in desperate need of secondary options in the passing game to take some of the defensive attention away from Nico Collins.

The best bet will be second-round rookie receiver Jayden Higgins, who will look to top his two-catch debut; however, behind a struggling offensive line, the Texans' offense as a whole could continue to look sluggish, making Collins the only reliable weekly starter.

Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson brought in 8-of-11 targets for 76 yards in his team's 20-13 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Johnson's 11 targets were good enough for the team's second-leading number on a day when quarterback Spencer Rattler attempted 46 passes. The sixth-year pro closed out 2024 with back-to-back six-catch efforts and tied a career-high with his total on Sunday. The situation in New Orleans could change rapidly regarding its quarterback position.

Still, the team is in dire need of playmakers outside running back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Chris Olave. We can't expect 11 targets every week, but Johnson is one of the more athletic tight ends in the league, and opportunities here are ripe for the taking. He'll try to build off his strong start next time out when the Saints take on the visiting San Francisco 49ers.

Michael Mayer, Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer recorded four catches for 38 yards in his team's 20-13 Week 1 victory over the New England Patriots. The third-year tight end played 40 out of 63 (63.5%) of his team's offensive plays. Additionally, fellow Raiders tight end Brock Bowers (knee) left the game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury, although Bowers told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero that he expects to be fine.

If Bowers were to miss time, Mayer would be a clear waiver-wire target for fantasy managers. Even with Bowers healthy, it appears that Mayer will have a role in the Raiders' offense, although it's unlikely to lead to consistent fantasy relevance.

Tyler Warren, Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts first-round tight end Tyler Warren looked very sharp in his first career NFL game on Sunday, hauling in seven of nine targets for 76 yards and leading the Colts in targets and receptions on the afternoon. The Colts' offense looked great against the Miami Dolphins as they went on to win 33-8 in what was an absolute blowout for the Colts in their home opener.

Warren appeared to have an excellent rapport with quarterback Daniel Jones. If Week 1 is any indication of his career, fantasy managers are going to be excited that they drafted Warren later in drafts. The Colts drafted Warren 14th overall with their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, and Warren should remain a reliable option in all formats, especially in PPR formats, ahead of a Week 2 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
