Joey Wendle Has Uphill Battle
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays infielder Joey Wendle was acquired in December from Oakland. He will battle for a place on the major league roster where it is likely that he will be a backup infielder. He has played the majority of his professional career at second base but he does have appearances at third base and shortstop. He has 109 plate appearances in his major league career where he had a .266 batting average to go along with above-average defense. Wendle will turn 28 years old early in the 2018 season. If Wendle becomes the starting second basemen, he would have value in deep leagues. The more likely scenario is that he is not the clear-cut starter, in which case he would be more like a bench option in an AL-only format.
