Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 8:
Christian Watson, WR, Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (knee) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to the team. Watson has been limited in practice every day this week and said earlier in the week that his "goal and my plan is to play" in Week 8. The 26-year-old was also limited in practice all last week before ultimately being ruled out.
He hasn't played since suffering a torn ACL in Week 18 last season against the Bears, but appears to be trending in the right direction to make his season debut on Sunday night in Pittsburgh. If Watson does suit up, he will likely be on a snap count as he eases back into action, making him a risky fantasy option.
Cam Skattebo, RB, Giants
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo should be in all starting fantasy lineups in Week 8, as he looks to repeat his dominant performance against the Philadelphia Eagles from Week 6. Skattebo has been a fantasy workhorse since taking over the backfield, ranking as the 8th-ranked fantasy RB for the season while averaging 15.46 Fantasy Points per game (FPPG).
In the Week 6 matchup against the Eagles, Skattebo exploded for 98 rushing yards on 19 carries and found the end zone three times, demonstrating his elite scoring upside. Though Philadelphia's defense allows an average of 23.39 points to the position (ranking 25th against fantasy RBs), its stout 3rd-ranked red zone defense could be a factor.
Skattebo's high 53.4% timeshare and his red-zone usage, evidenced by his five rushing touchdowns, cement him as a must-start despite the Eagles looking for revenge.
Isaiah Davis, RB, Jets
In three games since seizing the New York Jets' backup running back role, second-year pro Isaiah Davis has yet to make an impact. That said, it could come to fruition this Sunday when the team takes on a sieve-like Cincinnati Bengals defense. When teammate Braelon Allen (knee) went down with a knee injury, Davis immediately stepped into the latter's role, backing up starter Breece Hall (knee).
In those three games, though, the South Dakota State product has accumulated just 17 yards on five carries, adding 49 yards through the air on 6-of-9 receiving. It isn't very inspiring, but the stage is set for him to see more work while Hall battles a knee injury. The sentiment appears to be that Hall will play. If that doesn't work out, the 23-year-old will handle a majority of New York's backfield touches with teammate Khalil Herbert working behind him.
If Hall is active, Davis figures to occupy his primary role as a change-of-pace option, potentially garnering a slight boost in work due to the former's knee issue. He's RotoBaller's PPR RB34 ahead of Sunday's contest with the Bengals.
Jaylin Noel, WR, Texans
Houston Texans wide receiver Jaylin Noel stepped in for Christian Kirk (hamstring) on Monday night in Seattle, and the rookie posted four catches for 77 yards. The 77 receiving yards were the highest total of all of Houston's wide receivers in the game and a new personal best for the third-round pick from Iowa State. He has been getting more work each week, and he should continue to be involved at least while Kirk is out.
Kirk missed the first two weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, and he suffered another hamstring injury Friday in practice, but there's no word on how long he'll be out. Noel brings good upside out of the slot if he gets another start against the 49ers in Week 8, and there could be even more targets available if top receiver Nico Collins (concussion) is limited or out after suffering a concussion on Monday.
Brashard Smith, RB, Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Brashard Smith played his highest snap share of the season in Week 7 against the Raiders and could continue to see his role expand in the coming weeks. Head coach Andy Reid spoke glowingly of Smith in Thursday's press conference, noting that "we're going to keep utilizing his talents."
The star quarterback shared a similar feeling about the rookie running back, saying, "he's made a ton of progress." The seventh-rounder out of SMU handled a season high 19 touches for 81 total yards last week against the Raiders and figures to be a big piece of the puzzle in Week 8 against the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football.
Veteran running back Kareem Hunt (knee) also missed Thursday's practice, which would open up opportunities for Smith if he is unable to go. He is a viable flex play in Week 8 with many teams on bye.
