Dylan Lonergan Wins Rutgers' Quarterback Job
Rutgers has named quarterback Dylan Lonergan its starter to begin the 2026 season, according to On3's Pete Nakos. The senior spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons at Alabama before transferring to Boston College in 2025. Now on his third team in three years, he will operate as Greg Schiano's QB1. In 13 career games, Lonergan has completed 197 of his 292 passing attempts for 2,060 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions. The Georgia native beat out junior AJ Surace, who completed four passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns last season for the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers begins the season with a home matchup against UMass before a road trip to Boston College, in a "revenge game" for Lonergan. The program will face No. 14 USC, No. 6 Indiana, No. 16 Michigan, and No. 18 Penn State in 2026.
