Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ozzie Albies - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (7/26) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the July 27th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on July 26th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Daily Musings

  • Ozzie Albies playing some old jams w/HR, two doubles. “I can tell you how I feel about you Nite & Day.” Whoo. Sing it, Al-bie-Sure.
  • Somebody had to christen the new stadium…Joey Gallo.
  • Excuse me. Coming through. Trea Turner (1) has an urgent, express delivery (421 ft).
  • Trevor Story gives the crowd two merry-go-rounds. Tried for the combo meal, but Chirinos: “No Steal For You!”
  • Patrick Corbin presented a masterpiece to the bullpen (6.1 IP, 1 ER, 8 K)…sometimes if you want something done right….
  • I see what you’re trying to do, Gleyber Torres, with your first long ball. You’re trying to make me feel bad for choosing all the other SS.
  • Dear Jonathan Villar & Jon Berti, your hitting isn’t working. You can’t steal bases if you don’t get there. Figure it out.
  • No, no. Nobody is judging you, J.T. Realmuto. No, nobody is getting antsy about your two hits in 13 AB.
  • Miguel Rojas batted .284 in 2019. Looking good so far.
  • Vince Velasquez has resurrected…wait. Nope, it was Velasquez.
  • 109.1 mph exit velo?! Bryce Harper sets off a missile into the stands.
  • Carlos Carrasco dominates all! He is without peers! 6IP, 10K. *psst. It was the Royals & he allowed 2ER.* @MIN next. Hmmm. COOKIE!
  • Jose Ramirez is a streaker. Right now, it looks like the good streaking (two HR).
  • Special shout-out to Trevor Bauer. 13 K. Respect.
  • Victor Robles (CS) trying to take advantage of the substitute teacher...I mean catcher. Higashioka says “Thou Shalt Not Pass!"
  • Awww, look who is smitten with Great American Ball Park. C.J. Cron sent his second long-distance love letter to the park.
  • Joe Jimenez does more hocus pocus. Second SV.
  • How disrespectful is it to hit from the opposite side of the plate & smack a homer? Ji-Man Choi. Cold-blooded!
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. notices our team is light on speed so he picks up the pace. We appreciate that.
  • Everyone trying to get hits on their resume. Waiting on the grand entrance of: Carlos Santana; Eugenio Suarez
  • Blake Snell intentionally pitched two innings. Five strikeouts. Ok. Progress.
  • Color me confused. O’s stomp the BoSox again. Yep, it’s 2020. To round out the Ripley's Believe It or Not: SF beat Dodgers.
  • Maybe Jose Peraza shouldn’t hit leadoff.
  • Kenta Maeda enjoying his new digs. W. CLE next. He’s a very giving me, handing Luis Robert his 1st homer. So kind.
  • A Denny’s Grand Slam isn’t what it used to be. Jake Cave knows how to make it exciting. All the playing time for this guy.
  • Nelson Cruz w/2 HR, 7 RBI. I hope I’m that fit at 40. Oh yeah, it was a good year…40.
  • Zack Greinke only 3.1 IP. Velo at 87 mph. Is this still pre-season Greinke trying to fool us again?
  • Because Taylor Jones is a better hitter vs. LHP than Kyle Tucker. C’mon MAN! Dammit, I feel more hairs on my head changing to the Gray team
  • Freddy Peralta excitement didn’t last. 3 IP, 4 ER.
  • Ian Happ was a victim of inconsistent playing time. Now, however, different story. Fastest on team to two HR..well, besides Anthony Rizzo
  • Corey Kluber started and knocked out the first inning. Done. A scoreless inning. w/1K. & he was done. Some say quit while you’re on top.
  • Rockies darling Ryan McMahon is trudging along with a solo cup. Do you want to know what has inside? It’s an 0-fer in 10 AB
  • Mystery novelist Trent Grisham will write a wonderful story batting second in young, potent Friars lineup.
  • Everyone’s preseason lover-boy Zac Gallen. 4 IP, 1 ER, 6 K. *Groupies have a dance party* Ahem, don’t forget the five fast-passes.
  • Garrett Richards’ line looks marvelous. 5 IP, 6 K. But these two teams are top five in K% so far.
  • Oh man! Shohei Ohtani. You already know. Just breathe. Let’s be supportive…of your sanity.
  • Relievers getting wins left and right. I love it. Yusmeiro Petit. Beautiful, young man.
  • The quiet professional. Mike Trout w/an alley-oop over the wall & 4RBI & the crowd appreciates the value of silence.
  • Rick Porcello, 6 ER in 2 IP is not very Cy Young-like.
  • Yes, I do. I get giddy every time I see the success of players left behind. Go Ender Inciarte! Marcell Ozuna, sit down. People started to love you again.
  • Hmm, 1 hit (a HR) every 10AB. Let me do some calculations. Ok. Austin Riley. Let’s do that.
  • Daily leaderboard check: *Fireworks* Corey Seager leads MLB. MVP, MVP….wait. Who’s this top-five candidate? Jose Iglesias w/six 95+ mph hits. Further investigation needed.
  • Is this the early-2019 Dansby Swanson? I hope so. SS is so loaded though.
  • Thank you Mookie Betts for the SB. Otherwise, I shake my head in bewilderment at the game outcome. SF w/team wOBA of .231
  • Aroldis Chapman with first neg. Covid test. C’mon. Bring him back quickly.
  • Not all pitchers are warmed up yet. It takes time to get into a game-conditioned rhythm. This is why you’ll have blowups and injuries. Do NOT hate on the players themselves. Be frustrated with the outcome, yes. It’s all part of the excitement.
  • Have fun.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
