Recent Update

5/25:Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Vince Velasquez just can’t seem to go long into his starts, even when he pitches well like he did this afternoon. With the Phillies desperate to end a five-game losing streak today against the Colorado Rockies, the 24-year-old went just five innings, allowing one run on eight hits, walking one and striking out seven. Still, the performance took 94 pitches, ensuring he wouldn’t go past his five innings. Velasquez’s performance kept the Phillies in the game, which they would eventually win in extra innings. So far this year, he’s made it through seven innings just once and has tossed over 90 pitches in eight of his nine outings. While he may occasionally bring strong stuff, he just can’t seem to go deep, giving him a major flaw.--Ricky Delgado - RotoBaller
