Dynasty Fantasy Football Running Back Player Outlooks

De'Von Achane, Miami Dolphins

NFL teams that have recently called the Miami Dolphins to inquire about trading for running back De'Von Achane have been told that he is "not available," sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN. Under new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley, the Dolphins have traded or released most of the veteran core, but Achane, who is entering the final season of his four-year rookie deal, is part of the team's plan going forward. The Dolphins traded star receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos on Tuesday and also sent veteran defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets earlier this month.

Achane averaged a league-leading 5.7 yards per carry and rushed for a career-high 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns in 2025, making him the RB6 in half-PPR scoring. He also caught 67 passes for 488 yards and four touchdowns. He's a dynamic threat out of the backfield, and while his volume will remain plentiful, Achane's fantasy stock takes a hit now that he's the only trustworthy option on offense right now in Miami.

Dylan Sampson, Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns running back Dylan Sampson was much more effective as a pass-catcher than as a traditional RB in his first year in the NFL in 2025. Sampson played in 15 games (two starts) and had 175 carries and no touchdowns on 65 rushing attempts (2.7 yards per carry). As a pass-catcher, he caught 33 of 40 targets for 271 yards and two touchdowns. The 21-year-old fourth-round selection out of the University of Tennessee figures to have a similar role in 2026 as a pass-catching specialist behind starter Quinshon Judkins.

Sampson should have a slightly bigger role as well with Jerome Ford out of town, but in a Browns offense that could once again struggle given their less-than-ideal situation at quarterback, Sampson will mostly be a late-round handcuff option for Judkins' managers in single-year PPR leagues. Sampson is a bit more attractive in dynasty/keeper leagues as a hold for depth purposes.

Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams

Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams posted another excellent season in 2025, recording 1,252 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns on 259 carries across 17 games. The 25-year-old also posted his most productive NFL campaign as a receiver, hauling in 36 receptions for 281 yards and three scores on 50 targets. However, despite playing one more game, Williams saw 55 fewer touches in 2025 than he did in 2024, and he could be in line for an even steeper drop in workload in 2026.

Fellow Rams running back Blake Corum emerged as a productive piece of the team's offense in 2025, averaging over five yards per carry on his way to 782 scrimmage yards and six total touchdowns. If Los Angeles fields one of the league's elite offenses once again in 2026, the team may be able to support quality fantasy production from two running backs.

However, if the Rams' offense regresses or the team chooses to even out the touch distribution between its two backs even further, Williams might have a tough time maintaining fantasy RB1 production. To no fault of his own, Williams' dynasty value should be slightly downgraded after Corum's emergence in 2025.

Cam Skattebo, New York Giants

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) said on the Rich Eisen Show last week that he probably has "a little over a month left" until he's "fully back to 100%." Skattebo added that he ran at around 75% intensity for the first time last week. The 24-year-old said he's doing a little more than a jog while striding out, and he also fully expects to be ready to roll for training camp this summer after suffering a gruesome right-ankle injury in late October that ended what had been a promising rookie season in 2025.

Injury aside, Skattebo said new head coach John Harbaugh's offense fits his skill set as an RB perfectly, so the Arizona State alum has high hopes for his second year in the NFL and beyond. There have been rumors circulating that the Giants want to add a high-profile RB in either free agency or the draft, signaling that they might be worried about Skattebo's long-term durability.

Skattebo averaged 4.1 yards per carry and had 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries in his first eight NFL games before his injury. His 2026 fantasy value will depend on what the Giants do in the draft at the position, but right now, he sits atop the depth chart.

Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is a typical sell-high candidate in dynasty fantasy football leagues this offseason. Dynasty strategy strongly encourages managers to sell high on injury-prone skill players in their thirties coming off a top finish. However, moving McCaffrey at this point is far easier said than done, mostly because he's not comparable to any other running back in the NFL. Sure, he'll be 30 by the time the 2026 regular season gets underway, and yes, he missed 13 games in 2024.

However, he was healthy for all 17 in 2025, he eclipsed 2,100 yards, and he finished as the clear-cut RB1 in fantasy scoring. Managers are encouraged to explore trade offers for McCaffrey, but they shouldn't sell high just for the sake of getting some compensation before it's too late in his career.

Trading McCaffrey should still fetch a very significant, full-price package in dynasty leagues, because the 49ers' running back has overall RB1 upside again in 2026, and he should remain a top-10 option for at least a couple more years. Plus, the 49ers have shown no willingness to reduce his workload. They barely used backup Brian Robinson Jr. last season, and they have not yet brought in a replacement for Robinson in free agency.
