Once again, the waiver wire this week is lacking quality running backs. We have yet to see any surprise names emerge, but that will likely change as the season progresses.

While there might not be a starting back available on waivers, there are a few players who could be of some use to fantasy managers. Some backup running backs have started to cut into the starters' workload. Several RB2s available on waivers this week are Tyler Allgeier, Blake Corum, and Kyle Monangai. There is a case to be made for all three, but what should we realistically expect from each player going forward?

So, are Allgeier, Corum, and Monangai worth adding off the waiver wire in Week 3? Let's take a look at the outlooks for each player.

Tyler Allgeier Week 3 Waiver Wire Pickups

Rostered: 30% of Leagues

Allgeier is coming off a big Week 2 performance where he had 76 rushing yards on 16 carries and scored a touchdown on the ground.

Despite the nice stat line, Allgeier only played 33% of offensive snaps in Atlanta's Sunday night win over the Minnesota Vikings. However, this marks the second straight game that Allgeier has had at least 10 carries. He is the RB2 on Atlanta's depth chart, but has 26 carries so far this year compared to Bijan Robinson's 34.

Allgeier's big Week 2 was largely due to Atlanta playing with a lead for the majority of the game against Minnesota. This took the pressure off second-year starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and allowed Atlanta to ride its ground game to a victory. However, the Falcons may want to take some rushing work off Robinson's plate and utilize him more as a receiver. That could mean Allgeier offers some standalone value.

Unfortunately, Allgeier only has one target through two games and hasn't played more than 33% in either of the Falcons' first two games this year. That will make it difficult for him to consistently produce results similar to what we saw in Week 2.

Regardless, Allgeier is one of the top running back adds this week as he is the clear Robinson handcuff and would be in line for a massive workload if Robinson were to suffer an injury.

Blake Corum Week 3 Waiver Wire Pickups

Rostered: 8% of Leagues

Baller Move: Add in 12+ Leagues

After barely seeing the field as a rookie in 2024, Rams head coach Sean McVay vowed that Corum would have a larger role in 2025. After Corum only had two touches and played just 16% of the team's offensive snaps in Week 1, it looked like McVay was once again blowing smoke when talking about Corum's role.

Corum was more involved in Week 2, though, and played 29% of the team's offensive snaps. He also had five carries for 44 rushing yards and scored his first career touchdown.

After the game, McVay stated that the split in playing time this week between Corum and starter Kyren Williams was more in line with what the team wants to see from its top two backs. While that might be the case, and while Corum saw the field more this past week, the reality is that Corum carries little value if he's only getting five touches per game.

Rookie Jarquez Hunter was active for Sunday's game after being a healthy scratch in Week 1. However, he failed to record a touch and played a grand total of zero offensive snaps.

If we combine that with Corum's increase in playing time, it becomes crystal clear that the Rams coaching staff views Corum as the team's RB2. He doesn't offer any standalone value, but Corum is the clear Williams handcuff. He would be a borderline RB1 should Williams miss extended action.

Kyle Monangai Week 3 Waiver Wire Pickups

Rostered: 6% of Leagues

Baller Move: Stash in 12+ Team Leagues

After only playing 13% of offensive snaps and receiving one touch in Week 1, Monangai saw a huge uptick in playing time and usage in Week 2. He played 41% of offensive snaps, ran for 28 yards on seven carries, and caught one pass for eight yards on three targets.

However, most of Monangai's work came late in the game during Chicago's blowout loss to the Detroit Lions. Starter D'Andre Swift still saw the large majority of touches before Chicago's last few possessions.

Swift did lose a fumble in this game, and while he's had heavy usage, some of his underlying data points to an inefficient back. Through two games, Swift ranks 82nd in PFF rushing grade and 54th in PFF elusive rating. The sixth-year back has never been a consistent rusher, but new Bears head coach Ben Johnson has had zero issue using Swift in a near bell cow role.

However, the Bears are now 0-2, and the team needs to get more production from its running game. If Swift's inconsistency continues, it's possible he could cede work to Chicago's other backs.

Third-year running back Roschon Johnson was active for this game, but did not receive any touches on offense. That points to Monangai being the next man up in the event of a Swift injury or if the coaching staff decides to experiment with other options. It makes Monangai an intriguing addition off waivers, particularly in deeper leagues.
