Week 1 Waiver Wire Pickups - Trey Benson, Tyler Allgeier, Jarquez Hunter Fantasy Football Outlooks

Trey Benson - Fantasy Football Rankings, RB, NFL Draft Sleepers,

Week 1 fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Trey Benson, Tyler Allgeier, Jarquez Hunter in 2025. Read their waiver wire outlooks for fantasy football.

Picking up the right players before Week 1 could be a league-winning move. Imagine if you were looking for a player to pick up ahead of Week 1 during the 2023 season, and you came across a rookie named Puka Nacua. Nacua then went on to have the greatest rookie season in NFL history.

So, in this article, we will determine if Trey Benson, Tyler Allgeier, and Jarquez Hunter are worth picking up for Week 1. These three running backs were either drafted really late or went undrafted in most leagues this summer.

Are Benson, Allgeier, and Hunter worth adding off the waiver wire in Week 1? Here are the latest outlooks on each for fantasy football.

Trey Benson Week 1 Waiver Wire Pickups

Rostered in 40% of leagues

Many believed that Benson would have a solid role in Arizona's offense last year after being selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. However, the former Florida State running back didn't see many opportunities in his first year. He saw just 63 carries for 291 yards and one touchdown across 13 games.

But as Benson enters Year 2, he should see more chances out of the backfield. The Cardinals have raved about the 23-year-old all offseason, and head coach Jonathan Gannon said late in July that he believes Benson "is going to take a step."

Therefore, Benson could be worth an add in some 12-team leagues. While he is the clear backup to James Conner, there's no doubt that Conner has dealt with some injuries in his career. That means the second-year running back could see an expanded role if the veteran were to miss any time this season. If you have Conner in your league, then Benson becomes a must-add player in all formats.

Baller Move: Add in All Leagues if you have Conner

Tyler Allgeier Week 1 Waiver Wire Pickups

Rostered in 33% of leagues

Allgeier looked like the next best running back in the NFL after he ran for 1,035 yards as a rookie in 2022. One year later, though, the Falcons selected Bijan Robinson with the eighth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Since then, Robinson has been the clear RB1 in this Atlanta backfield over the past two seasons.

Unfortunately, things won't play out differently this year. Robinson will remain the clear top back in Atlanta, while Allgeier will back him up in a reserve role. The 25-year-old only saw 137 carries last season to go with 644 yards and three touchdowns. As a result, he isn't worth an add in most leagues right now.

However, if you do have Robinson on your team, then Allgeier becomes a must-add player in all formats. If the star running back were ever to miss any time due to injury, the BYU product would emerge as a strong RB2 option for fantasy managers. In his only season as a starter with the Falcons, he finished as the RB27 in half-PPR formats.

Baller Move: Add in All Leagues if you have Robinson

Jarquez Hunter Week 1 Waiver Wire Pickups

Rostered in 2% of leagues

For the second straight year, the Los Angeles Rams selected a running back in the NFL Draft to back up Kyren Williams. The team took Blake Corum in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft and then drafted Hunter in the fourth round of this year's draft. However, the rookie faces an uphill battle to see significant playing time in Year 1.

He is expected to start the season as the team's RB3, behind both Williams and Corum. On top of that, Hunter didn't look great in the team's final preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. In that contest, he drew the start and ran seven times for only 14 yards.

That means Hunter should not be added in most leagues right now. We need to see how things play out in this backfield before running to the waiver wire to pick up the fourth-round rookie. The former Auburn Tiger should just be monitored in 16-plus team leagues for now.

Baller Move: Monitor in 16+ Team Leagues
