Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Player Outlooks

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is entering his third year in the NFL and will look to expand upon his 2024 breakout campaign. With fellow wide receiver DK Metcalf nursing injuries over the second half of last season, Smith-Njigba went nuclear and finished with 100 receptions for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns. Five of his six touchdowns came after Week 8. Smith-Njigba will enter the 2025 season with a new offensive coordinator in Klint Kubiak and a new quarterback in Sam Darnold.

The Seahawks plan to take a more run-heavy approach as a team this season, but that should not preclude Smith-Njigba from racking up targets. Additionally, Metcalf is gone, and the Seahawks let veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett walk in free agency as well. Seattle added wide receiver Cooper Kupp as their No. 2 option and a plethora of other free agents and rookies to their arsenal. There is no one on this roster who should threaten Smith-Njigba's volume or even his touchdown upside.

With an improved offensive line and hopefully an improved running game, the Seahawks should unlock the play-action game where Darnold thrives. That should allow Smith-Njigba to work successfully in the mid-range of the field. While Smith-Njigba profiles more as a high-end WR2 despite his WR9 finish last season, he certainly has the upside and proven ability to finish as a WR1. His ranking by RotoBaller as WR13 is in line with his probable range of outcomes.

Marvin Harrison Jr., Arizona Cardinals

This time last year, the fantasy community was enamored with Marvin Harrison Jr. In some leagues, the 2024 fourth-overall pick was drafted as a late first-round pick. That didn't pan out as fantasy managers hoped, and Harrison has been surpassed by other sophomores like Brian Thomas Jr.Ladd McConkey, and Malik Nabers. Struggles with separation and a dismal contested catch rate (28.6%) led to a WR30 finish. While he wasn't the difference-maker in year one, there's plenty to be optimistic about in 2025.

Harrison had a nose for the end zone, scoring eight times, and was sixth in air yards among wide receivers. He was in the top 20 in routes run and route participation. However, Harrison was rarely in motion and ran a simple route tree. Coaching staff creativity can help get the ball in Harrison's hands easier and more often. With the pros and cons baked into his ADP, the receiver now has a respectable fourth-round cost, a much safer selection than last year when the hype spun out of control.

- Andrew Ball

Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

We all know what to expect from Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans at this point in his career. He'll total over 1,000 receiving yards and likely catch double-digit touchdowns. Evans has reached the 1,000-yard mark in each of his 11 NFL seasons while catching double-digit touchdowns in four of the past five years. The six-time Pro Bowl caught 74 passes for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns across 14 games with the Buccaneers last season.

Even though the 31-year-old missed three games due to a hamstring injury, he was still a top fantasy option. He finished as the WR9 in half-PPR formats and averaged 14.5 half-PPR fantasy points. Fantasy managers should expect similar numbers for the veteran in 2025.

He will remain Baker Mayfield's favorite target in the passing game, and Evans has shown no signs of slowing down at his age. As a result, he will enter the season as a high-end WR2 in most fantasy formats. The 6-foot-5 wideout has finished as a top-16 fantasy wide receiver in half-PPR formats in seven straight seasons.
