Ethan Salas Progressing Slowly, Return Timetable Uncertain
Ethan Salas (back), who was diagnosed in May with a stress reaction in his lower back, is healing slower than expected, and it's unclear when he'll be able to return to action. The Padres' second-ranked prospect (MLB No. 22) has not played in a game since April 17, and it is looking more and more like a lost season. The 19-year-old played in only 10 games at Double-A San Antonio earlier this year, going 6-for-32 (.188) with a 6:5 BB:K and two steals. The left-handed slugger has solid hit and power tools, but he'll likely need to put them on display in 2026 in order to make a push for Triple-A. The 6-foot-1 backstop could debut in the majors in 2027, so dynasty managers will want to keep an eye on his progress over the remainder of the season and into next year.
