ANALYSIS: The Cleveland Browns drafted running back Quinshon Judkins in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Coming off a National Championship-winning season at Ohio State, many expected that Judkins would immediately take over the Cleveland backfield that opted not to re-sign Nick Chubb.
However, Judkins was arrested for domestic assault in the summer and was away from the team during all of training camp and the preseason. While his prosecutors did eventually drop their charges, Judkins remained away from the team, which allowed Jerome Ford and fellow rookie Dylan Sampson to see all of the work with the first team.
On Saturday, Judkins was finally able to sign his rookie deal, which will open the door for him to make his NFL debut as early as Week 2 when the Browns face the Ravens. In their season opener, Ford and Sampson shared the backfield, but Sampson looked much more explosive, especially in the receiving game.
Fantasy managers should pay close attention to Judkins's status during practice this week. If he can log full sessions, he should be in a good spot to debut next weekend. While he will be eased into action, given the upside he showed in college, he will easily take over the early-down work in Cleveland fairly soon.
Even though he could lose passing work to Sampson (who finished second on the team in receiving yards in Week 1), he should see all of the goal-line work and short-yardage opportunities, which will push him into mid-range RB2 status.
