Tyler Lockett 2022 Outlook: Value Drops Following QB Change
3 years agoSeattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett is expected to take a step back in 2022 after veteran teammate and quarterback Russell Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos. Drew Lock will take over under center, and while he can definitely sling the football, he's no Wilson. Lock racked up two touchdowns and two picks through six games last season (111 attempts). He averaged 0.43 fantasy points per dropback, ranking 25th among passers with at least 100 dropbacks. Meanwhile, Wilson ranked eighth (0.54 points per dropback). Looking at Lockett himself, 2021 was certainly a great season. He racked up 1,175 yards and finished second in ADOT (15.45) among receivers with at least 70 targets. He ranked 16th in fantasy points per snap and 17th in fantasy points per touch. He also finished inside the top-10 in terms of DYAR and DVOA. However, the best way to evaluate Lockett's outlook for 2022 is to explore how he performed without Wilson. Catching passes from Geno Smith isn't the exact same as catching them from Lock, but the overall idea is sound: we need to know how the 29-year-old performed sans QB1. Over that three-game stretch from Weeks 6 to 8, he was the WR44. Most notably, he posted that finish despite logging 26.2 fantasy points in Week 8. Seattle also averaged an NFL-worst 25:17 time of possession last year. If the offense couldn't stay on the field and produce with Wilson at the helm, a downgrade at QB and a renewed focus on running the football will leave Lockett with even less fantasy value. Managers should look for a higher upside option at Lockett's current ADP of 79.
