Travis Homer 2019 Player Outlook: Seattle's New No. 3 Running Back
6 years agoWhen the Seattle Seahawks selected Miami running back Travis Homer in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft, it was clear he was going to be groomed to replace former No. 3 running back Mike Davis, who signed with the Bears during the offseason. That is still the plan, as Homer will be behind both Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny on the depth chart. With C.J. Prosise, J.D. McKissic and Bo Scarbrough in the mix as well, there will be a lot of competition for carries in Seattle’s run-heavy offensive attack next season. However, Homer’s ability in pass-protection should help him see the field on third down situations, although he might be utilized more as an extra blocker than as an actual receiver, something he didn’t have to do a ton of while in college. All this points to a player with limited fantasy value heading into 2019, although Seattle is known as a run-first team, and coach Pete Carroll is not afraid to mix things up in the backfield. Homer is a name to keep an eye on as a handcuff or if an injury occurs to either Carson or Penny. Until then however, he should be left alone on draft day except in the deepest of leagues.
