Marcus Mariota 2018 Outlook: Post-Hype Sleeper
6 years agoAfter a breakout 2016 campaign that saw him throw for 26 touchdowns and just nine interceptions, Marcus Mariota was being drafted as a top-8 quarterback in most 2017 fantasy drafts. Unfortunately Mariota had a disappointing 2017 season, to put it nicely, throwing for only 13 touchdowns versus 15 interceptions. The only thing that saved his fantasy owners were five rushing touchdowns. Mariota battled a hamstring injury through much of 2017 that hindered his performance. Now seemingly healthy, and with a new head coach and offensive coordinator (Matt LaFleur, who if you didn't know was the offensive coordinator of the Rams last year, the NFL's number one offense), Mariota could be a post-hype sleeper for 2018 at the quarterback position. It doesn't hurt that the Titans 2017 first-round pick at wide receiver, Corey Davis, is expected to make a leap as well, and the addition of former Patriots running back Dion Lewis gives Mariota even more weapons. Mariota is often being drafted outside the top-12 quarterbacks in most leagues, and could be a player that savvy owners grab off the waivers or late in drafts. All signs point to a bounce-back year for the quarterback.
