Bubba Wallace of 23XI Racing had the best result of his career at a road or street course in Sunday's Anduril 250 Race the Base at Naval Base Coronado. Wallace started the race from 12th place, but quickly showed that he had plenty of speed from the beginning. The No. 23 Toyota driver went all the way up to the top five by the halfway point of the first stage, competing with Shane Van Gisbergen, Michael McDowell, and Ryan Blaney for the lead until his first pit stop on lap 17. On the very next lap, Wallace lost his right front wheel as his pit crew did not successfully tighten the lugnuts on the tire, leading to Wallace being held by NASCAR for two laps on pit road as a penalty. He ended the stage in the 33rd position as a result. Wallace spent the second stage and the final stage recovering back to the lead lap and regaining track position lost from the penalty/ He kept his car clean, and thanks to a timely caution on lap 60 as he was already pitting, he shuffled back towards the top 10. In what was the race's final restart, Wallace worked his way up to third behind his two teammates, Tyler Reddick and Corey Heim, while he was holding off Kyle Larson for position. Reddick eventually got a flat tire on lap 74, which allowed Wallace to slip to his eventual finishing position of second. This was the first time Wallace finished as the runner-up in a road or street racing event in the Cup Series, and he now moves up to 11th in the regular-season standings after 17 races.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller
